Has anyone coded a great stock ticker app for MorphOS? Apple includes a nice one with their devices and computers but I’m not sure about MorphOS.

Well, I just started the Stocks app on MacOS for the first time to check its feature set and it just busy-loops. Restarted it a few times. Does not bode well :)

Unfortunately, the only way to replicate the Stocks app would be to pay for access to the Yahoo Finance API. There is an unofficial way to access the data but this could stop working at any time.

Given how large Apple are, they obviously managed to strike a deal with Yahoo Finance to get official access and support.

Maybe there would be a way to connect to Google Finance for free!?

The Google Finance API was shut down years ago.

That really sucks, I believe there are other free solutions out there to get ticker symbol prices.

The ones I found all had rather severe restrictions regarding the amount of API calls you can do per minute, day or month.

Imagine a Stocks app that is limited to 5 API calls per minute and 500 API calls per month for all of its users combined.

You would need just a little app with html view that displays a little free widget, e.g.
    https://widgets.tc2000.com/?from=fsc.
The dashboard of earlier Mac OSX allowed to create those from Safari snippets, for example.

The website shows an error message if you try to create a widget.

I am afraid this list if woefully oudated.

The problem is that these widgets need to connect to an API and the free popular ones have been shut down since this blog post was published, which is why many older widgets no longer work.

Edit: TradingView seemed to have a widget that might be suitable but it does not work with Odyssey.

So there's no official free API, not even with a 15 minute delay of the stock price updates?

Nobody can make an absolute statement about it. Maybe there is, maybe there is not.

    Feel free to find one.

Based on my research, most (all?) companies in this industry appear to be trying to sell subscriptions for data access.

I've read it. Twice. I assume the link I gave is to the "unofficial way" then.

    It is.

The project you referenced also appears to have dependencies not available on MorphOS.

Maybe rename the headline is a good idea? I did not know what a "stick ticker" is.
