Any chance of VPN for MOS?
RDesktop is kinda useless without it.
I work from home sometimes and must have VPN and RDesktop to operate.

I'd also need an OpenVPN client to be able to work from home using MorphOS, now I have to switch to Debian...

    this way:
    1) use in your home a line Internet with IP public STATIC.
    2) use in your LAN work an appliance firewall and set the WAN to LAN access only at your IP public STATIC of your home (and other IP public STATIC if needed)
    3) use an RDP client in MorphOS to connect ( http://www.hd-zone.com )

In this way you don't need any VPN client in MorphOS host and also you have a better "speed", and security, ;-)

I am more than familiar with SSH.
My understanding is work would have to setup an SSH connection, not VPN.
Can I connect to a VPN using SSH?
    Not heard of that.

A VPN capable router would do the trick.
Just setup the VPN inside the router.

"VPN" in itself is not precise enough.
Since they are all different and use different custom protocols, you should really tell which VPN you are talking about... And maybe also describe the network topology you must "workaround".

And, again, for something as simple as RDP, ssh -L is more than enough. As long as you can forward some port through the company's front machine, of course.

    Hi,

i dig up this little topic to say i would be interested in a bounty too, for an openvpn client.

Actually i use windows clients in VPN SSL mode to access distant ressources like smb network shares, printers, local webservers etc.

i saw an old topic on pegasosforum (http://www.pegasosforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=4514)
refering to a 2.2 port, but it is all in german and from 2011 so...

first, is a port doable regarding our tcpip stack ?

ok, i suppose it close the case then.

Seeing how long the mos team struggled to release its own network stack, i suppose support of TUN and TAP won't be available anytime soon.

    Thx anyway

I haven't looked looked closely into this but with the stack update I did in MorphOS a year or two ago, I don't think it would be a huge deal to enable those additional protocols. I'm also quite advanced on a port of a much newer BSD core stack which would be by far the most modern one
(by decades) on any Amiga-related OS. That would be a further extension of our lead btw :)

The question is one of priorities and not about us struggling with networking.

    Best,

    Nicholai

    That sounds really interesting! :-)

And to offer some feedback to some questions raised above in this thread, I'd personally prefer OpenVPN...

    :-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

This spam mail should be removed but progress on the network and VPN possibilities in MorphOS would be nice.

I think Nadir's post makes it pretty clear that in order to make VPN possible, someone from the MorphOS Team would have to modify the networking stack. This is less about our interests and more about actually having spare time to do this.

If you have an urgent need, the best approach would be to buy a router with a built-in OpenVPN client. They are even available in small pocket or travel sizes. Prices start as low as 20 EUR for brand new devices.
