Heart of the Alien: How to set up for compiling.

So I'm posting this on three different forums as I'd like to take a stab at compiling this on every Amiga related platform that I use, and considering that I know next to nothing about coding for the Amiga, I assume that the development environments will vary from one another, therefore I need help setting up my development environment to suit each OS, naturally since this is an MorphOS forum, I am only asking for MorphOS help here.

As you can see on the page, there was a port of Heart of the Alien compiled for Amiga OS 3.9, but no release was ever submitted.

I wrote to the author and he told me that the guy who compiled it only sent him a screen shot, which you can see on his page. He then told me that all I would need to do would be to compile it and I should be good to go, but he said I would need gcc and libsdl. So what I'm wondering is how do I get them, where do I put them, then where do I put the source for Heart of the Alien redux, and then how do I get them to compile?

I would rather do this my self rather than have someone else do it, as it would give me an opportunity to learn. Then if more work needs done to get them to work, I could ask around and maybe perhaps learn a bit about coding basics.

Please remember, I'M A TOTAL VIRGIN TO ALL THIS. So please, baby steps, baby steps! :)

P.S. I heard there is a coding for MorphOS tutorial around here somewhere....

Just to remind you of what might be problematic with this specific port on big-endian environments:

That's right, you and I did discuss this before, and apparently you and I are the only fans of this game...

What gives?!?!? Are people crazy?! :)

Thankx for the links, I'll have a look through all this.

I gave it a try years ago, and it started and showed some stuff, but then it didn't work properly. It's safe to assume it was caused by endianess issues, and fixing all of them might be quite tedious (especially if you're new to this :)).

How about a quick guide for setting up ScummVm for code modification and compiling? ;)

I guess I'll have to stick with playing Heart of the Alien on my Sega CD emulator for the classic XBOX. Of course I do have it for BeOS, but thus far it will not run under Haiku.

    Endianness issues resolved apparently:

    http://aminet.net/package/game/actio/HeartOfTheAlienRedux

(Executable doesn't work on MorphOS, unfortunately.)

Works (mostly) on my C64/Turbo Chameleon (Minimig). Only the intro animation audio is out of sync.

I was just about to post the very same thing. Anyone up to the task for an MorphOS port?

Here is a quick recompile of the sources (with few minimal changes)

If anyone can confirm if this works, I can release it "properly" later. Please don't put it on aminet etc. yet, I'd rather have a "proper" release there, with icon, readme and stuff.

Already compiled this long ago, but back then, there were some rather nasty glitches in the intro sequence already, so didn't think it was worth releasing.

Did you see the readme bundled with the source?

I guess there's something wrong with the current version anyway. And seems that the intro glitches are still there. (just had time to get it running today myself)

Resurrecting this old thread because I am facing the same issue with beworld: 1) No sound / music either with iso+mp3 combo AND with the .RAW audio files from EAB's classic amiga port, 2) No character on opening/first in game set in order to move/progress.

EDIT: Same resources play 100% fine under emulation (e-uae).

Has anyone successfully managed to setup the game on MorphOS?
