Um, I do, and I have a Radeon HD 7770 that is due to be delivered Monday.
However, that card has already been sold, so I was planning on just testing it and shipping it out.
If I can get a LiveCD that will boot on a G5 and support Radeon HD cards, I'm willing to give it a shot.

What I don't currently have is an Apple compatible PCIe card for that system, so setting up Linux would present some serious challenges.

Yes, I know your stance, and I've repeated mine often enough.
But then my pov is self centered. I'm willing to install what I need to run MorphOS, and OS4 isn't really part of that equation for me (besides, I can run OS4 AND Linux with a 6000 series card, GCN cards aren't supported with acceleration under Linux yet).

BUT, boys...I'm still following this guy's lead and buying Aeon hardware, so this isn't a priority.

My first priority is getting the next cards off to Mark, and the X5000 cpu cooler that Aaron at AOTL gave me for Mark's system (that about a $100 expense on each shipment).
Then I'll re-buy an Apple X1900GT, and finally I'll get around to replacing this damned HD 6870 I bought (from an eBay seller with about 600 feedback posts all 100% positive no less).

Any wonder that I test each card that gets shipped to South Africa?

And this also points out why I so strongly believe we need to support NEW hardware.
Because troubleshooting used hardware is an f'ing pain in the ass!

I've got an X5000 and specifically wanted to run MorphOS on it. Its a shame that I may have to change the video card to do so since mine came with a 250X in it. I'd rather keep using my G5 and not deal with a lesser card. I do like OS4.1 in this thing as well, and yeah while paying for driver updates sucks every time a better one comes out, they do work great. Its no MorphOS though.

BTW -I sent Mark an email asking about the idea. However, depending on how busy he is (and he's always pretty busy), it may take awhile for him to get back.

So, all we need is a hard drive and a video card for the swap. The first question is what is the best video card to use.

FWIW - not to derail the thread - it took me longer than six hours to drive through the Los Angeles area the day before Thanksgiving, but I digress. :)

You should contact Brian Deneen, the president of SACC, and ask him if he knows of anyone needing to share a room. I waited too long, and ended up not being able to get a room at either hotel, but luckily, a friend of mine decided to go, and had reserved a room for Saturday night, and Bill Bosari has a room with an extra empty bed for me on Friday night, as the person sharing his room can't arrive until Saturday.

It sure would be great if you could make it, specially if you also had a beta copy of MorphOS3.10 with you, to run on your X5000.

Um, as an aside, I exchanged a message with Mark yesterday. He's willing to consider it, but he wants to know who is going to be doing the demo (I told him Acil @ AmigaDave's table), and he wants assurances that the OS will remain secure.
I informed him it was Acil's intent to install it on a separate drive and that I was fairly sure that neither Acil or David would allow it to leak.

Now we just need to know what the best choice for a video card would be, I haven't heard back from Mark on that or on my reply about the presenters.
I tested a Radeon HD 6750 I had on hand today under Windows and Linux, and that's a really nice card. Low draw and good performance.
But if need be, I can dig up a Radeon HD 4870, which would have the advantage of supporting composting (Mark mentioned in a previous email that the R600 and R700 card drivers support this, butr that the HD 5000 and above don't have it yet).

Still, a 6750 would offer a better cross comparison etween OS4 and MorphOS as both drivers would be accelerated.

SO, if everything goes right, we might have a MorphOS 3.10 demo represented at AmiWest this year.

That REALLY makes me wish I could attend (hey a good OS for the X5000, after all ).

Okay, IF I am actually back in town early like I am being told and not held up with work related things I will come out early saturday morning. I will know more as we get closer! I'm leaving this sunday the 25th on a week long trip, so here is hoping I can get out of the next one!

Hmm, so we don't have a firm commitment that Acill will show up?

If Mark's willing to provide the beta, I'd feel more comfortable knowing it will be used.
Maybe we could talk to Trevor or Aaron about securing a demo system.

If I can't assure Mark that the demo will be used, Acill might have nothing to show on his X5000 except OS4.1, which doesn't really help our cause.

Why all the secrecy about MorphOS 3.10?
