    An "fpga thing" wouldn't be a "legitimate device"?

    My initial thought based on the video on the website (https://www.ataribox.com) would be an emulation box along the lines of the NES mini built to look like a 2600..

    The only thing that makes me thing different, is the various owners of Atari over the years have already put out a load of 'Flashback' devices (I have two myself) and they haven't exactly set the world on fire - so maybe it's ACTUALLY a new console?

    Retroconsole -> meeeeehhhhh

    "New" console ->
    either a closed down gaming PC without the maintenance needs of an actual gaming PC (Xbox/PS4)
    lots of 3rd party support needed

    or something like Nintendo with massive exclusive/inhouse games
    absurd amount of money needed

    Absurd indeed. I have to question the sanity of people who bought one at those ridiculous prices.

    Good guess, Kronos.
    PC hardware it is apparently.

    ???

    Bought both the WiiU (years ago) and the Switch at normal retail prices and consider both money well spent.

    Breath of the wild has me hocked up like no other game in a decade or so.
