Who thinks a bounty for Audacity is a good idea?

I`ll start you off with 1000 euro...

Audacity needs wxWidgets, which has been discussed in that thread:

    See especially posting #10 therein.

I see. The list of wxWidgets apps is not that impressive so I think it's not worth the effort. Meaby we can start talking again about GTK-to-MUI wrapper?

I think the proper questions would be:

    - is AHI/Reggae up to the task of running the audio stuff ?
    - is the GUI seperated enough to replace it with a MUI one

Having worked on that GTK2MUI-wrapper in the past I've come to the conclusion that such wrappers and ports relying on them are the source of all that is evil !

What about investing your money in an airport driver for PowerBook instead ? :-)

That's kind of funny for me to be honest :) I don't fell lack of 3D drivers on PB at all (i'm not a game player) but I'd love to have WIFI support.

    Another good question could be:
    - is there another similar program that would be less crash-prone, that could be ported instead?

I have done only rather simple things with Audacity, but how "far" from that f.ex. Audio Evolution 4 is? I have used that even less... :-)

Also some more system friendly 68k programs probably work (too bad Soundprobe isn't among them...)

I had no idea what wxwidgets were so I checked out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WxWidgets

I was surprised to see AmigaOS as one of the supported platforms. What else is holding back an Amiga port of Audacity?
PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)

Despite what's claimed in that article, it is not. It runs on AmiCygnix but that's it.

What we need is to developp a gui for ffmpeg-mencoder which can handle video and sound editing i think that tcheko has the skill needed to do this. Maybe he need to be motivated ;-)

Mencoder doesn't need only a GUI. it needs also to be updated...

According to prof. Morbius@_FP Mencoder for MorphOS lacks an important feature present on Wintel version...

Or maybe it has problem with files more than 2GB. I don't remember what was the issue.

Dr_Morbius_FP almost switched to Intel X86 for all his needs of rescaling movies that he made to various video formats.

He uses mainly a famous Matrioska set of tools of which I can't recall the name.

Raf_MegaByte is creating a mess because, reporting incomplete information, he says much more than it should...

The real problem about MEncoder is that it is no longer maintained by the core programmers since years. Progress in MEncoder still appears because its code is mainly a MPlayer variant, however while MPlayer is still continuously developed and debugged, MEncoder is not and its problems increase...

So, as regards to MEncoder status, it's irrelevant that Fab does not upgrade frequently the MPlayer/MEncoder package. Only MPlayer is alive, MEncoder is almost dead.

Furthermore, it's important to note that the main focus in video processing is no longer concentrated on the obsolete AVI container format (and H263 video codecs like DivX, XVid and equivalents) for which MEncoder is still useful. Interest now concerns full HD videos and much more flexible and advanced containers like the Matrioska format (and the most efficient H264 video codec). Matrioska (MKV) containers can be managed with powerful packages like MKVtoolNix (command line tools and GUI!) that are available in the Linux/Windows world and can be used with much faster processors than our PPCs...

[Not to mention the upcoming H265 codec for 4K videos...]

This was just to clarify things, I know that the current subject of this thread is audio editing, so I quit soon this digression.
