Simplemail Slow To Start

Got a strange problem with Simplemail, the more mail I have, the longer it seems to take to open. I have around 6,800 emails and it has to "read" everyone upon each launch.

It says in the bottom status bar "Reading xxx of xxxx" and counts up, this can take 3-5 mins sometimes, and it reduces the rest of the system to a crawl.

Any idea how to fix this?

Well since I use Gmail and get 10 gigs free, I'm only using 29% of my space (3GB). I use IMAP so deleting them in Simplemail would also delete them off the server.

I like to keep them all for reference/archival purposes. Is this just a fault/bug with Simplemail or do I have some setting wrong? Surely it should just remember them from the last session and not have to reprocess them all on launch? Odd thing is, sometimes it DOES. It doesn't do it every time, other times it will come straight on and remember everything, really weird.

Well, use POP if you can, works well. IMAP never worked fine with SM for me.

I can try changing my settings then, but I don't know if that will make a difference, this seems to be when the program is starting up, before it's even communicated with the server. Happens even if I have no internet connection 9 times out of 10.

Bad expat.libary can do weird things too, so make sure you don't use some other version than from MorphOS 3.1, the 68k one provided with SimpleMail should work fine though.

Hmmn some very weird behaviour now! I changed my settings to POP 3, closed Simplemail and reopened it and it came straight up and remembered all my mails! I rebooted it and reopened it, and again it had to rescan the entire mail box which took 4 and a half minutes :/

Any more ideas? Am I the only one having this issue? Wondering if a total system reinstall might be needed bleh

    Hi,
    I have exactly the same problem with Simplemail 0.38 on AmigaOS4.1 ( I know, it's a MorphOS forum )

I use POP mailbox and often SimpleMail have to scan my entire mailbox and few times (very rarely) it opens very quickly (even at boot time)

Maybe that he has to do with the filesystem, I'm on a SFS\0 partition, and you ?

Ah wow, so it's not just me. Yeah I'm using SFS on my disks too. Are we the only two Simplemail users (lol) or are others having the problem, or found a fix?

I'm using SimpleMail for secondary mailboxes, so I don't have much mails in it... about 650 currently. I've never had any slowness when opening it and I'm using SFS too. Can't remember it would have scanned mails so that I'd noticed at least :) But I've been lazy to update it and I'm still using version 0.32.
