UnArc

    Hi,

Quick questions I hope can be answered.

    1. What is the GUI equivalent to UnArc on AmigaOS? It must be something that comes as standard with MorphOS that I can rely on being there.

    2. Also what is the command line for forcing the GUI to show during extraction?

    E.g.

    <appname> SHOWGUI downloads:abc.lha ram:

    Finally,

    3. What is the complete path to the executable?

    E.g. SYS:Utilties/<appname>

    4. Archive formats, what can it handle? A complete list please.

    Thank you :)

The only one with GUI which comes with MorphOS is Ambient, it uses XAD and works only in a browser mode, you can't invoke it via CLI to do things like you described, there are some rexx commands, but i guess it will not be enough. Command XADLibInfo lists supported formats.

Okay, does the command line program LHA come as standard?

Also reading other threads, under MorphOS is SYS: always referred to as MosSys: ?

It's there, you can check it yourself by downloading MorphOS ISO.

MOSSYS: is only for system components and it shouldn't be generally touched by the user. For all other stuff there is SYS:

Q: What is MOSSYS: and SYS:MorphOS?
A: MOSSYS: is an assign pointing to SYS:MorphOS. The idea is that SYS:MorphOS is a private directory for the operating system and you don't need to touch anything in it. A system upgrade will be done by simply putting a new directory (old one can be renamed or so). If you want to change the way the system is started edit s:user-startup, nothing else.

There's no supplied GUI application that'd show you extraction progress like you want I think. People either use Ambient which allows them to navigate archives as if directories, or extract using commandline tools that have no GUI. For extraction the best bet would be xadunfile (supplied).

By default, MorphOS' xadmaster has a number of plugins:
AMPK, Cpio, DiskDoubler, HA, LhA, StuffIt, XZ, Ace, CrunchDIsk, Zip, LZMA, DMS, LZX, RPM, Tar, Bzip2 and a few others.

Great thanks, would that be stored in SYS:C/ ?

Also same question for AROS (icaros desktop) if anyone wants to indulge me on this forum. Comes as standard in SYS:C/ or in the Extras drawer?

Basically, do all command line progs belong in SYS:C/ under MorphOS? Do people generally install mplayer* in there as well?

The command line version without GUI.

The path is not "SYS:c/" it is "C:".

Do not assume a fixed path, this will always go wrong in one or another way.
