I just received my copy of Image FX 4.5 in the mail. I went to install it, but got an error with the installer script, so I replaced the MorphOS installer with the one from WB 3.1 and was able to install it.

During installation I selected the MorphOS option, but for what ever reason when I launch any of the programs in the package, it loads up to a black screen and nothing more.

Anyone out there using this? Care to give me some pointers?

    Thankx!

Maybe it's due to this (just a guess):

I meant, what the hell are they? I've never heard of them and therefore don't know how to use them as he suggested. :)

Google for "Amiga Standard Library". However, in order to do what luky-amiga suggests you don't even need to know at all what ASL is.

So I right click on ImageFX 4.5 and select OPEN without using the ASLs?

No I'm afraid I don't understand. It is talking about going into ImageFX's prefs, but I can't even load up Image Fx to do so.

I was under the impression that ImageFX has a standalone prefs program. If that isn't the case then just forget what I said. Sorry for confusing you.

    I have it too.
It must be installed using the old OS 3.1 installer, not the MorphOS installer.
It does install and will work.

Andreas_Wolf: I don't think it has stand alone prefs, but I could be wrong. I just got this, so I'll have a look around. Maybe I'll luck out. :)

when you say you just got IFX 4.5 - do you mean the "Studio" version? This CD was created and for sale in Dec 2003 and was made to install on MprphOS of that time. Which I believe is 1.4 unless I have lost my mind 8-)

I installed and used in on my MOS and it's fine. What this installer did was install IFX libs and such in the section for none MOS apps. I'm not looking at my MOS right now and I have forgotten what it's called.

using a different installer may have placed these files in the wrong location.

Here, take this Default.prefs file and check if it makes any difference. If not - check what Snoopium has to say.

I don't remember it being MOS compatible except that it comes with PPC libraries.
Took my best guess from my memory of installing it.

If it runs on MorphOS it's MorphOS compatible, PPC native or not.

I was one of the beta testers for IFX4.5 Studio (not to mention many of the earlier versions ). Not only did we test the install program but we tested the program to run on MOS 1.4

    yes, it does work. really

    @cecilia, or magnetic,

Did you need to do anything special to get IFX4.5 Studio to install correctly on a MorphOS2.x system? I have had problems installing it on actual Classic Amigas as well as on WinUAE.

I got an error using MorphOS' installer. I'd have to post the error # later.

I will try this default prefs file, but can't use Snoopuim as I'll be stuck on a black screen once I launch Image FX 4.5

the install should do 99% of the installation correctly. to make sure you have the newest Text Hook,
go to ImageFX40_Disk4/Hooks1.lha hooks/sys/text on the CD

some people have problems with Modules/Savers/YUVSPLIT
    delete them if so.

did you check that the CD itself is ok?

it says very clearly on a black and white label

using the IFX4.5 STUDIO CD run the install script normally.

There is actually at least two versions of the Text hook within the CD

The newest one is not installed by the normal install script.

and the newest Text hook has bug fixes so I think most people would want that.

The newest Text Hook is located on the CD here:

    ImageFX40_Disk4/Hooks1.lha
    open, extract Text.....
    save it too:
    ImageFX4/hooks/sys/text

some people have problems using the loader or saver for the YUVSPLIT format. the best solution is to simply delete those files.

    Modules/Savers/YUVSPLIT
    Modules/Loaders/YUVSPLIT

it's been reported in the past that some people have their IFX crash when booting up IFX. if it's YUVSPLIT, just get rid of it.

if your IFX doesn'r crash when starting up, well, leave it.

First off, I do have the 4.5 Studio CD. As you said it was written on the disc and I was looking at the box. So mystery solved.

As for getting this tot run...

...well replaced my prefs file with the one upload here and I ended up getting this message:

Can not open preview module. 'modules/preview/windowedCGX' - using Amiga

When I hit OK, I get taken back to the beautiful black screen I've come to love.

...and I suppose you don't have the mentioned module in your modules/preview? Try to copy it manually from the CD (or, in case it's not there try to use this one).
