On the ML PagestreamAmigaBeta, Deron Kazmaier posted yesterday a long message i've copy/pasted here :

    Quote:

    Hello,

I figured I would post this here first, and maybe a few kind souls would
    spread it around.

I have done most of the work for the PageStream Amiga version, and we
have had success here getting people to fire up and run it, but the
truth is I am just swamped with work and all of this time I have spent
on the Amiga version has made the rest of my work suffer greatly.

I am beginning to think that finding someone to help out with the Amiga
specific code (that would be Classic, OS4, MorphOS and even AROS) would
be to my advantage in the long run. This person would be responsible for
working on the MUI (or even later Reaction), and helping with the
debugging on those platforms. A few MUI classes need to be written, or
features extended, and general Amiga/MUI debugging.

Considering the size and sales of the Amiga market, this will certainly
not be some full time job. More like someone who is an Amiga enthusiast
who is proficient with MUI, and has free time that they would like to
profit from. All work would be done over the internet of course.

I'm flexible with regards to business arrangements. Either flat rate,
royalties, co-license, or some mix. I wouldn't expect this to net more
than a few thousand USD, unless by some miracle the Amiga makes a
significant comeback. I'm not looking to make a profit on the Amiga
myself at this point, but I won't be taking a loss either.

The code itself in question is a library layer that sits between
PageStream itself and the OS. The programmer won't be weeding through
PageStream code, or even hundreds of requester implementations etc. The
code is about 3.5mb in total, but that includes the Mac Carbon, Windows
and Gnome/gtk implementations as well. It compiles on its own, and can
be tested with the PageStream 5.0 binaries, or a few test apps.

If any of you have some thoughts on the matter as well, I would love the
feedback. Maybe I am nuts to even consider this...

    Deron

Personaly, i use PGS4.x under MorphOS but an updated version of buggy PGS5.x would be fine !

    1. I'm currently occupied with DigiBooster 3.
    2. I've never used PageStream.

Who knows, in 2013 maybe... ;-)

This is quite an amazing announcement - it even includes both technical and money details!

I'd bet that's good news too! I thought DigiBooster was dead long ago.

It's a pity that a brilliant MorphOS programmer doesn't have some resources for this - it's a very big application to miss. Or perhaps it's because it's so big?

I'm one of those persons that use Pagestream (4.1). It is still an amazing good program for DTP, but i don't have any knowledge of programming (Oke, I programmed some little things in Muibase, but that's all.)
I hope someone will go for this challenge!!!!

Cool news you have it working on os4 and morphos! A couple of questions:

    1. Is there any external MIDI control?

    2. Does it record samples?

    3. Do you recommend any soft synths like 303 and 808 emu on Amiga?

IMHO PageStream 4.1 is one of the last major professionnal DTP programs left which runs on our great OS! The version 5 of it would be very much needed as it has major changments of layout tools, transparency support, enhanched pdf export, ttf and otf font support, and it will run on MUI, and, and...

It would be really great if someone who has enough knowledge about MorphOS and MUI could take the challenge, or help, or give advice, etc. so we can benefit further of this great
    app. under MorphOS.

thanks itix for your feed-back here! As already sayed IMHO this is a major piece of software which run's on MorphOS! Perhaps contacting PageStream's author and finding some kind of arrangment would already help so the project starts going...

I still hope there is a experienced programmer that can help Deron with his update of Pagestream. Perhaps a bounty? especially for the new Pagestream 5.0? I bought even a Mac (intel) to use the new Pagestream!!!!
. It is my most important program that I use....

I helped Deron with some MUI stuff a few years ago, sadly I don't have time at all at the moment. It is a very worthwhile piece of software and an updated version would be a big step forward. The older version does not even have an antialiased display, it looks really horrible compared to the newer versions.

There is a download available for AOS3-68k, PageStream 5.0.5.8a Amiga-OS3-68k on the pagestream.org web site.
(needs to be a registered purchaser to download, though)

Have anyone tried to run this on MorphOS, and can give a feedback about how well it runs?

I've tried to run it under MOS2.7.....extreme long time to startup (8min), a lot of GUI-errors (MUI), loading and saving procedure will often crash the whole system......(the rest I won't test.....)
Conclusio: not usable at the moment!
On AOS3.9/060 less, but similar problems.....

    @ Amigaharry2
8 min. ??? then IMO you have same kind of other problem on your System because here it runs 8 secs! Really! And this on an Pegasos2 G4, but I run the program from the shell, you have to enter the directory where PGS5 is located. A lot of stuff work already but some do not at all, like chosing colors, line or/and fill, crashes the system, as well some stuff in prefs. Screen redraw is very slow also...

    @ all
PageStream 5 isn't usable for now under MorphOS, unfortunately :-(
In order to get the MorphOS version of PGS 5 out as fast as possible, or at all, Deron would need some help for MUI related stuff from somebody experienced about that.

Hopefully someone can/would help to get an updated version, after 8 years when PageStream 4.1.5.6 was released, of this excellent DTP program out for our great OS!
PGS 5 can be used as an word processor as well as it can compete with professionnal software like adobe's indesign. It can be used to create a simply flyer up to brochures and books, posters, etc.

It's really worth it and it's the ONLY last piece of this kind of software left which run's on MorphOS!

And it's more or less 1/10 of the price of indisign.
