    Hi

    I use mobile connection, on pc under firefox there is some kind of automatic compression of images because of that connection. It can be removed with modify headers plugin.

    I've noticed that this compression is the same under OWB. How can that be turned off?

    Are you sure? Because in order to do that there would need to be some massive proxy somewhere doing re-compression of images on the fly. Opera has this, it's called Opera Turbo.

    Are you perhaps confusing this with HTTP compression? HTTP Compression is certainly desirable, you don't want to turn it off.

    Yes, and this is exactly what is being done. If you would like to know more, feel free to search the internet for "Vodafone compression", just to name one example.

    Some mobile carriers have been using this for a number years now (at least five to six years based on my personal experience). Opera introduced their implementation fairly late, in comparison.

    Oh. You learn new things every day :)

    Personally I prefer my connections untouched, which is what we have around here.

    Piru: other than that stupid compression it's quite ok. I cannot use landline in here as there is always some trouble with that, last time I was 7 days offline and in my business I cannot afford that.

    Anyway - Fab is there any solution for that? :)

    Pampers,

    I don't really see how OWB is related here, in fact, except possibly by the user agent. OWB and Curl don't really deal with this kind of compression (except for gzip stuff, as stated previously).

    Hmm that's kind of weird then if you can turn that off in firefox by simple plugin. I wonder if that compression is done some kind before connecting to www sites but for example music streaming is ok and downloading files as well..

    @Fab

    It's not HTTP Compression like I suspected, it's a transparent proxy giving you lower quality jpeg images instead of the originals.

    Some googling revealed that apparently the trick to disable it is to enforce no-cache for Pragma and Cache-Control headers for every request.

    PS. pampers, you could have just linked to the instructions right away, it would have been much more obvious what was going on ;)

    Ok, that's interesting. I'll see how i can integrate that in a not too ugly way.
