Does anyone know of a good application for editing PNG images under MorphOS. Specifically I need something which will allow me to set a transparency colour for PNG images.

Photogenics (v4) does not seem to work under MorphOS 2.5 (no fails reported in SnoopDOS, however the application just doesn't start).

TVPaint also errors out when starting (Insufficient stack - have tried increasing from 4096 to 16884 with no effect).

    Thanks

This TVPaint worked for me at least:

I haven't really used it much but it starts and appears to work.

How about SYS:Applications/Sketch? Just remember to check "save with alpha channel" in saver window. And remember to report all ecountered bugs to stefkos (that'll teach him to make a decent bugtracker ;).

Thanks all, opened it with TVPaint with no problems, but am still figuring out how to set transparency - stubborn white background just won't go away.

Tried Sketch, but wasn't aware of saving with alpha channel at the time - will try that again when I get home.

Will report the problem with TVPaint to Papiosaur (as it came from the PackUltimate1.60beta) - it could just be that I've messed something up when installing it to a different location than the default one, but weird error to come up with...

    Thanks all :-)

Specifically I need something which will allow me to set a transparency colour for PNG images.

You mean transparent colour or alpha channel? These are two different things. PNG has a rarely used possibility to mark one color transparent in palette based subformats (2, 4, 16, 256 colours), which works very similar to GIF transparency. Commonly used 24-bit PNG images have just 8-bit alpha channel for transparency control.

My way of dealing with PNG alpha is to prepare a grayscale transparency mask with any program (I like TVPaint most) and then insert this mask as alpha channel with ShowGirls. Then I save as PNG in ShowGirls, making sure "Save alpha" checkbox is checked in PNG saver config. For example my avatar here is postprocessed with ShowGirls (after being rendered in Blender).

Open "Layer control" window (HELP shortcut key), set "Backgrd" as "Check". Paint something, Save layer as TIFF RGBA. Later you can open this image with ShowGirls and save it as PNG :).

I am using TvPaint everyday. Download Alphatools which have converters or use Showgirls for loading Tiff and save to PNG

    Hope this helps :)
