    Hello,

I really wish to test Basilisk II the MacOS7 emulator. I need to check out apps if any adds some value to my MorphOS. Alas I need a ROM file which is copyrighted I suppose. Of course I migh get an old Apple machine on ebay and rip its brains into a file.

But why the hell am I supposed to do such things? I am a lazy guy, in the age of internet I wanna simply pay and just download the damn file. My local apple hotline said they aren't dealing in such issues (no wonder). So I wrote email to some european customer service address (support@europe.apple.com I suppose). Almost two weeks are gone and there's no answer.

Can someone please give me some apple email address where they reply emails, preferably of the US? It is really nasty to find any email on their webpage.

To me, either stuff is free / in a public domain, or proprietary. So if this file still is deemed proprietary, I really wanna buy it. Please help me because I wanna sort this out (if possible of course). I don't wanna make an international call on it because that would be embarassing...

That's right. MacOS7 is free now, alas ROM image file ain't.

If you look hard enough you will find one, they are all over the net. I dont see why it would be a big deal. The machines are not supported, sold or even being used outside emulation for the most part now.

That's what I will do in the end. But before that I'd like to hear what Apple says about it.

Dude, Apple DOESN'T CARE if you find an old LCIII and rip its ROM file to emulate their 15 year old OS on an eight year old Pegasos using an OS they never heard of. Bittorrent? I have a 1MB ROM file around here from an old Performa, which will work just fine. I can email it to you if you'd like.

Just run your emulator and be happy :-)

If they do not care, they should state it instead of playing dead when approached about.

Because System7.5 is a diskette mess on apple.com, can anyope please add the raw system in a MorphOS readible file format to downloads? If this is possible of course, not sure if Apple lets hosting the file(s) outside.

About the email... You can always send me an email... I'm always thankful to those who send me an email...

Apple would not allow hosting of any of their files or disk images here I am sure. They may not care about it any more and if memory serves me, 7.5.6 was released into the public domain. Maybe it could be hosted here, but I would not want the administrators here to risk the MorphZone.org site being shut down because they put something on the site for download that they did not have permission for. I am sure that you can find it elsewhere on the Internet, so just use Google.

I wonder if there is any way to run MacOS9.x PPC emulated on a MorphOS machine? It is not really practical to do so if you are running MorphOS2.4 on a MacMini as it would make more sense to just set up a dual boot system and run it natively.

I don't just wanna run it, I wanna extend my MorphOS with System7 apps.

Or at least have a chance to check whether it's worthwile.

According to his sig, he has Mac mini, not Pegasos. Besides, Pegasos II is 6 years old, not 8.

There is no 7.5.6. For a link to 7.5.3 download on Apple's site see Velcro_SP's posting.

No. Except if it's a Mac Mini, by installing Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 (not 10.5) and using the Classic Environment therein.

Mac mini can't run Mac OS 9 natively.

Now that you have the ROM file, let us know how your System Seven environment rocks! The machine from whence that ROM came was recycled many years ago, so I don't think there'd be any 'running on more than one CPU at once' type legality issues. Back in the day, my Amiga 3000/060 could spank my wife's 040 Mac big time-the Amiga made a Mac environment way more usable thanks to the speed of the 060. I think you'll have a good time with it :-)

You brought up something that reminded me when I called Iomega (Zip drives) back in the day like 1995 asking them about drivers or something, I dont remember how we got on the subject but there WERE USING AMIGAS WITH EMULATOR BOARDS TO RUN MAC OS FOR TESTING PURPOSES! (emplant boards!!) hahaha

Good story! I encountered just the opposite more recently (6 years ago). I told them I was using an Amiga and they seemed thoroughly baffled and told me to get lost. So I stretched the truth and said that I was on a Mac (a ShapeShifter Mac, but they didn't need to know that). That got 'em talking again!

To be honest, i found OS 8.1 ISO on some not really legal site ;) It was hard enough as 1st version I found it was a japanese or other quite strange language (for me of course).

I had to burn that CD on my Mac (running OSX). Then I was installing that with Boot from CD option on Basilisk 0.9! The latest version 1.2 was ejecting CD with no reaction.

That's it, quite simple :) After installing Mac OS 8.1 on the hardfile under Basilisk 0.9 i was able to run it on the latest version of Basilisk.

Edit: MorphOS won't see that burned CD, but Basilisk will do.

If there is more interested people i might upload it on my own server for few days..

    I am interested.

Screw Apple! Local callcenter says nothing about obtaining copyrighted files, europe@ address doesn't respond to emails sent from the Poles.

    I feel justified.

    @pampers go for it :-)

BTW if you know where to buy MacOS8.1, please point me the link :-) Couldn't find it and definitely won't spend all weekend on researching that (like it was with the rom file)

im instrested too. its a preinstalled 8.1 system in hdf file we talk about right?:)
last night i tried to boot os8.1 cd to basilisk 0.9 but right after the "welcome in macintosh" splash it crashed (the mac itself not basilisk).
also, how to create a new, empty hardfile? i was trying to do that with the gui (both with 0.9 and 1.2): select a nonexistent file (ie: macos8.hf) in the asl, choose the size of it (1024mb, default) then press create: system (morphos) halts, no file is created. what have i done wrong?
    thx in advance!

If you have any interesting OS 7 & 8 apps or games you can upload it there.

The installation might be net complete because it's freezing on some Java installation (i tried to burn iso on 2 cd's but it didn't help). But from using it i think all the important system stuff is there. Even internet explorer 3 :D
