MorphOS 2.0: Collective thread for first small problems

I can not boot MorphOS 2.0 from CD on my Peg 2 G3!

It seems that my second IDE channel is lost when boot.img
2.0 is loaded. In early startup menu there is no CD in the list and boot with no startup-sequence shows no CD with shell command "info".

My 1.4.5 setup shows in UnitControl:
    Unit 0 Samsung SV 1203N
    Unit 2 DVDRAM GSA-4163BA 106
    Unit 3 IDE CARD READER 9350 1

Something wrong with the IDE recognition?
Later I want to try without the IDE CARD READER.

    Thanks for help

    Andre

Corsair (2x1GB), but that is all I can remember ATM.
but the speed etc. isn't out in the blue, it was pretty much what everyone else was using/buying for their pegs at the time IIRC.

Yesterday I had a similar symptom, starting MorphOS 2.0 from CD. The only thing I had to do is waiting a couple of minutes, seeing the "Quark/OpenFirmware" on the screen, and the CD doing nothing. By the way, before that, I saw the CD led blinking in a way I've never seen in any computer, kind of "dimming". Amazing.
Then, the loading process continues, with the most fearfull CD drive thrashing I've seen since AmigaOS 1.0 on my Amiga 1000. But MorphOS 2.0 starts fine, only with a loading time of minures. Intriguing and fun.
Al these problems are gone when MorphOS 2.0 lives in a hard drive partition.
I guess it wasn't a good idea to burn the ISO image on a quickly erased CD/RW disc...

I tried moving a space in the toolbar and no errors message. Same for Quake II: here run in a good way (I lost sound, but it was a problem happened before..).
I've noticed some freezes with the blankers: Feathers crashes the machine everytime (fault of Radeon 9200 SE?), creating a blending of colors on screen; even Pig Invasion did the same some minutes ago...
Another strange thing: sometimes, after a rebooting, the USB external HD disappear, sometimes is there...
AmigaAmp and AminetRadio works very well and so Sputnik (thanks Marcik for this new release :-)). SimpleMail ok, IBrowse the same (the TCP stack integrated in MOS is reasonable fast).
Very very good work, although some.. bugs?! (dunno if this really are...) :-)

Hi guyz, I downloaded MOS 2 but I confess I fear to install it, because I fear it couldn't go on line and so get my key. I get a ADSL lan modem and a wirless router. Anyone knows how this new tcp/IP stack works?

    @ ossian:

the only I can say is:
there are 3 configured Networks interfaces: eth0, eth1 and eth2 (without mentioning loopback).
The first one: via_rhinepci.device needs no expanations, I guess.....
The second one: mv6436x_eth.device is the Marvell II driver for the GigaBit port ;-)
The third one: rtl_8139pci.device is Realtek RTLb139c driver
All of them are setted in DHCP and the first (via_rhinepci) I'm using works well and fast! I'm going to try the Gigabit port ;-)

Ciao e installa senza paura! Naturalmente previo backup dati ;-)

@ all: I've just tried the Gigabit port a minute ago, but it seems not to work.... I say "seems" because I'm not sure if it's a trouble or it's only me :-)
I even tried to unselect the other two ports but the eth1.. The effect is the same. Let's go!

to have gigabit working, you need 1.2 OF (or so, well the latest public one).

Hm... regtool should support _s in emails, as for other non-ascii chars, regtool has them filtered out because we would have to deal with various codepages then.

Somebody else also uses lots of SCSI Drivers above unit number 6 and got everything working?

Me not, so i am still running MorphOS 1.45 again.

Also found out that MorphOS 2 Tools and seem to not support SCSI Unit Numbers over 6. I can manage them neither with the HDConfig or mounter.
Even worse, that it doesnt seem to mount them.

I have several drives over unit number 6, that i mount after startup, as they are crypted, so they are not automount.

One drive not, which uses unit 14 and is automount.
With the old kernal and when switching back to MorphOS 1.45, it gets mounted imediatly. I also can mount it manually, but its a pain.
I somehow have to first remove it with assign device dismount/remove, before i can success.
Under MorphOS 2.0 i can see it on early statup but even booting without startup sequence, writing info, doesnt show me the drive.

    Strange :/ Any Ideas?

@jambalah: funny. all of the blankers are worked me, i could check them all without crash. now in theory we have to mix our good results to get a working system:)
could you run q3 and quake also?

That's a good Idea! we could do a super-mega Pegasos with one hundred of Mos users!!! ;-)
I haven't got Q3.. sorry Q1 start with fuhquake but stop at new game 'cos doesn't find "spprogs.dat"...
    I have to re-install something.. I guess
The problem is I can do a continuos work, due to the fact MOS 2.0 stops every 30-45 minutes.. Not mentioning the freezes!! But I still cannot buy it for a Pay Pal problem.. I'm going to friends home and try from his PC... :-/

Changed the resolution on screensaver "feather": works well in 1024x768 with no blending colors on screen. when presse left mouse button and went back on ambient screen, It...expanded and titlebar wasn't visible. went to the screenmode tested a resolution (1152x864), went back ambient screen normal. I think those are Radeon 9200 SE limitations.

    P.S. I tried Amifish... Really cool!! ;-)

Very few applications make use of the advanced issues so far. I hope to release the intuition SDK asap.

Use 3D as boot argument and you will have transparency enabled.

e.g. Ferox Skin has shaddows around the windows and MUI help bubbles are using real transparency for round edges.

The OS just provides enhanced functions to use transparency, but its up to applications/skins to use it.

I kept my MOS 1.4.5 on dh0: and installed MOS 2.0 to dh4: which is the first partition on my second disk.

    I boot MOS 2 using "boot ide0:0 boot.img"

It seems MOS 2.0 wants to use dh0: installed system. First a shell window opens with the error "Can't make dir RAM:ENV", mouse pointer is from 1.4.5 settings and IPrefs requester asks me to close the window. Then the system loads up old ambient and 1.4.5 system.

    Help!!

By the way, VERY confused about the last window of IWizard, what is "Source" supposed to mean ? I selected the MOS 2.0 iso file.

    I have a Peg 2.

    Thanks in advance.

Add bootdevice=dh4 to your mos 2.0 startup line.
    Code:
    boot ide0:0 boot.img bootdevice=dh4

bootdevice option overrides the boot priorities. It's useful when you're booting multiple versions of the system and want to make sure the system really boots from the correct partition. This way 1.4.5 can continue to have a higher priority and boot as default, but with for example BootCreator bootmenu when you choose the 2.0 option, the bootdevice option there will force 2.0 to use the actual MOS 2.0 partition rather than the 1.4.5 one.

I got some probs installing MOS on the Efika here.

I have an Radeon9200 (64MB right out of the ODW), which worked 100% under linux and OF, but when I start the install-image I get a very odd color scheme, mint blue as background white for windows, white for window-frames ..... I think you get my drift ... I somehow managed to install it to hd, but when I try to boot it gets stuck at the boot-pic.

None of these problems occured on the Peg2-install.

    Edit:

Seems the system hasn't actually crashed as after 30 minutes I got that time-out-requester, but nothing more :-/

Grats for the release, very good news. Sadly $230 is a bit high for me for a system that I use to just have fun with. I will try the Demo when I get home early August from Afghanistan, but I am nit sure if my budget will allow for me to make such a purchase, and having two machine I want it on its not going to happen for both for sure.
