I wonder if a new console called PSIII, could be the third generation of pegasos computer?
Would be cool to use next MOS release in this new entertainment device.
There?s Efika, XGI, and PS3 pics at PPCZone.

BTW, I would like to know if the sometime before mentioned x86 MOS demo version is going to happen someday.

AROS? Maybe I am a nerd, admire AROS team progress, but i do not even like mouse pointer movement, it is hard to close a window ;-D Needs more improvement, It is a toy for me nowadays. But obviously the future seems good for AROS.

But SoundSquare, I like MorphOS far better.

Hope to see the X86 way, is taken seriously finally.

    X86 SUX big time.

Is your G4 getting slower lately or there is any superb application that runs slow your the peg?

I cant see the point about going X86, and so, Im giving you five reasons not to go X86

    1 - I
    2 - N
    3 - T
    4 - E
    5 - L

Do we really want to get our nice OS running on those dirty CPUs?

Well, if you want some new hardware, I think you'd better buy an Efika and wait for MorphOS on it. Some people say that we should have a version in summer/begining of autumn... I hope that's true.

Anyway a poll for a new Pegasos (with MorphOS support) can be found on Powerdeveloper.org.
    http://www.powerdeveloper.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=7863#7863

A new Pegasos would be a lot nicer than a x86 port... (not saying I'm against a x86 port, but a new Peg would be really better !) :-)

    HI DQ !

    > Is your G4 getting slower lately or there is any superb > application that runs slow your the peg?

No such thing man unfortunately there is no much
new soft.. My Peg is fine right now,
I like MOS, whatever the hardware it runs on.

    >I cant see the point about going X86, and so, Im >giving you five reasons not to go X86

Widespread and cheap hardware, great possibilities
of a growing user base, therefore more chances of
    good software coming to MOS.

    >Do we really want to get our nice OS running on >those dirty CPUs?

I don?t mind much the hard really. Personally, I think is the OS what I like in first place.
I remenber BBRV talked about a MOS demo runing under PearPC.

It is not of much use for me. I can run Linux on my Peg yet. Next MOS version should run far better on Pegasos
than Efika. IF it supports Altivec, even better.
Do you think Efika is well suited as a desktop computer?

    >A new Pegasos would be a lot nicer than a x86 port... (not saying I'm against a x86 port, but a new Peg would be really better !)

I totally agree, but it seems hard to believe...
It could be nicer, but less positive than an x86 port,
and a lot more expensive. :)

Motorola fanboys are a thing of the (Amiga) past. Those x86 CPUs are not stupid chips, no matter how much professional and insightful comments (like "dirty CPU") are made against them.
If one day MorphOS would run on x86 CPUs, we would see, as much a two or three days of the typical "traitor" drivel in the forums. Then, a couple of days later, no one else would complain any longer. Nor anybody would remember those cool PowerPC CPUs that got us stringing along for ten years.
x86 is not evil. Bad programming is evil.

I fully agree, jcmarcos.. x86 isn't "evil". The single largest problem for MOS that I can see at the moment is the lack of decent hardware. Pegasos are more or less unavailable, and the only hardware that's even an option is Efika, and to be honest that doesn't really seem fit as the only available hardware considering its performance (hopefully we'll get to see more games/apps that need processing power for MOS soon).

An x86 base would at least open up MOS to the public, and you would get a vast number of hardware options. Personally I don't currently run MOS but would like to, though I'm not ready to pay something like 500 euro or more to get some out-of-date hardware that I can't do much else with if I get tired of MOS.. (Yes, I know I can run some linux distros, but no, I don't wanna' ;) )

Not to mention any user wouldn't notice a single difference... Except that it would be faster...

    I fully agree with Stingray454.
Last year I sold my Peg for money probs and now, after buying a 200 Eur complete peecee, I'm trying Aros.
To be honest the only thing I'm missing from my miggy is not the PowerPc inside of Peg but the beauty & simplicity of MorphOS itself.
So let's face the reality: If in the '90 there would be a possibility for PowerPc now I think the way to survive is going X86.
Again this is my opinion, feel free to disagree... :-)
The only thing for sure is that the "x86 is rubbish" mantra is childish nowadays. The only "evil" thing is the bloated software around (and when I say bloated I mean all Win* incarnations).
    Aloha.

of course there is zero difference from a user's perspective between x86 and ppc MOS, except PC are dirt cheap and widely available.

but personally i'm happy being an "elite" ppc owner running MOS. i guess it woould be a different story if i did not already have a pegII and only had the not so attractive option to buy Efika which doesnt even run MOS yet. :-) ahah hmm, im very selfish i know - but arnt we all? :-D

There is some difference: PA Semi's new chip and FreeScale 8641D are both more power / performance efficient than any of the x86 CPUs, including Core2Duo. EFIKA is a lot faster than a similarly clocked VIA based board while consuming just a portion of electricity. Being an 'environmental engineer' and on a tight budget makes these facts pretty important for me :-)

I am not really interested in that I mean, we are one of
the few desktop users that keep struggling with
ppc chips (whatever they are far better when it
comes to watts consumption). Who the hell cares
about that?. The most simple and important issue,
is to be able to buy hardware for running our beloved
    OS.

    >including Core2Duo. EFIKA is a lot faster than a similarly clocked VIA based board while consuming just a portion of electricity.

Talk os costs and availability, X86 chips win clearly cause ppc
can not beat such prices. Using ppc chips is like a knife cutting down our wings. The only part who obtains profit from selling this kind of hardware is Genesi, A Inc, or whatever you call, but not the user.

You must run your computer for many, many years to
save the several hundred Euros extra you paid just to
get a PowerPC cpu over that Core2Duo.

The power difference is far too low these days, hence
you have probably bought a new computer before you
    save the power costs..
