1) ambient will run in whatever you set to it... like workbench... i made working a resolution of 2400x1600 on my crt... to set it to vga, create in modeedit settings a new resolution of vga parameters (640x480x60), save it, and set it to the ambient... this should help a lot...
2) setup all the frequencies of your lcd to the modeedit monitor preferences... then just create your resolutions...
