I wonder why converting a DVD to DivX is much faster on OSX than on MOS.
I tried out Mencoder 0.91 and 1.0pre8, which both convert a certain DVD at approx 4-5 FPS, and I tried out HandBrake on OSX via MOL (both MOS and OSX on my PegII G4/1000) which converts the same DVD to (pretty much) the same quality DivX file at approx. 11-12 FPS, which is kinda 2 to 3 times faster on the same machine.
Mencoder and HandBrake both use ffmpeg stuff for this conversion job.
So, why is ffmpeg on OSX so much faster than on MOS? Is ffmpeg stuff on OSX so much more optimized, or is the lack of Altivec support on MOS the reason for this speed difference?
