    Ok, so please help me: I have an original dual-layer DVD, and can't play it on MOS 1.4.5. I can't even copy or play the VOB the files from the DVD (it says R/W error). Tryed MPlayer 1.0pre7 with the VOB files (MOS dropped R/W error), with dvd:// (can't found some files), with MPlayer 0.91 dvd:// (crashes).

    So please tell me how (and with) to play a simple DVD on my Peg...

    Had some problems with 1.0pre7 and DVD's as well. Try 1.0pre4 instead

    Never ever play VOBs directly from DVDs...

    First off doing so will not work on encrypted DVDs (R/W error), and secondly it will play back wrong and several features will be inaccessible.

    Other than that, do you use the correct device/unit when using dvd:// access? ..and with 0.91 you have to use "-dvd-device <device>:<unit> -dvd <titlenumber>" instead of dvd://...

    On the other hand, it might be faster that way. But if you do so, expect problems.

    Thanks for answers, now mplayer 1.0pre4 works almost fine (still has some framedrops on my G4, and doesn't support double buffering, so subtitles are flickering). 1.0pre7 (with the correct -ide-device option :) plays the disc with double buffer fine, but it skips back to the begin of the film after the half of it (maybe dual-layer problem?), and doesn't have OSD at all.

    Well, there is now MPlayer0.91 for internet streams, 1.0pre4 for DVDs and 1.0pre7 for simple video files. Cool :)

    The reason why you can`t copy the .VOB files, is Copy protection..
    The Answer to this is to use DVDShrink, the you will get a copy you can accualy COPY the .VOB files from. :-D
    The Mplayer Support for DVD playing is`t great yet, i got the meassage that i had to LOW CPU and i own 1Ghz. :-(
    But when i copyed the files to HD, it works great. 8-)

    Try reading the manual of mplayer.
    It has lots of interesting options.
    Use the -chapter option to avoid getting files bigger than 2 GB, e.g. -chapter 1-5 and so on.

    GK_LKA,

    dunno about 1.0pre4, but 1.0pre7 can play network streams as well. About DVD playback i couldn't really tell as i don't have any DVD to test, but it uses the same code as 1.0pre4 anyway (plus a fix somewhere).

    @XzIt:

    Erm, must have a pc to play DVD's on MOS? :)

    @Whismaster:

    Ok, I can live without the DVD menus, chapter selections, etc, but then let me play the whole DVD in one part without having to give which chapters you want to play... :/ (Only 1.0pre7 has problem with it.)

    Hm... I noticed reading DVD's on MOS is very-very slow. Is it possible that it is the problem, not mplayer?
