How do I get closer to Java?

I'm looking for ways to get things like Java and a reasonably current IE browser (yes, I know, don't get me started) going on my Peg2. I read here and there that the PC emu does work properly, but is chugging along like a 20MHz machine.

How's the Mac emu, does that allow me to do Java and IE stuff if I get the right bits installed?

And if so, which versions of what programs should I use?

If you have Linux installed you could try MacOnLinux or PegXMac.
With MOL you can use MacOS9 to MacOS X Tiger.
It only lacks 3D Hardware Support.

So that's starting from Linux. Any particular version or is there a recommended version?

And this means no emu is possible starting from MorphOS?

You can always use RDesktop to connect to a windows workstation, and using the remote desktop, run the programs you want... It's an awfull solution, but perhaps it can help ;).

If you don't want to use Linux, try Pegxmac. It's Linux based but it is very easy to use for a Linux newbie.
With Pegxmac you can boot right into MOL with MacOS X installed. I use it like that with OS X 10.3.9
