Best Free Software of 2004?

You know, we never did a "best free software" poll for last year! Any ideas folks? Who put out the best of the best?

Must be ORIGINAL, may be a major rewrite of existing program (i.e., version 2 of something), must be MorphOS native, and cannot be a port.

I think Ripper was first released (publicly) in 2004. It rules!

OS4Emu here as well. It just helped to put the red trolls in their place showing them that OS4 isnt as all mighty as they think it is. That and I can run PSX games using the OS4 PSX emulator!

First, I think I made a nice mistake. Maybe the software should be "MorphOS Friendly" rather than native. Also, I should clarify that a port is considered something coming from a foreign OS (Miggy 3.x stuff is not foreign enough to count as a port.)

Okay, below is an "unfiltered" list of what's collected up in the thread so far. Some of the titles may go away because of their time of release (must have been last year), and other rules. This is just a list to help gather our ideas together ;-)

    Basilisk II
    OS4Emu
    Mr. Banana
    ShowGirls
    FryingPan
    ripper
    Bars'n'Pipes
    DosBox
    AlfieSoft(tm)(r)(c) {someone please point out a single software title please!}

    Targhan:
Hmm well I am afraid the given rules do not fit with your current list ;-)

    Basilisk II:
"Just" a port, athough it has a nice Mui Gui.
But then also Kelly Samels Ports have to be considered. (They are from 2004)

    Frying Pan:
    Software was available before 2004

afair the same goes for Bars n Pipes.

Dos Box is "just" a port *and* was available in 2003.

For Alfie Soft I `d say Amrss ;-)

I can't decide yet. OSS4Emu? Mr. Banana? ShowGirls? Ripper? AlfieSoft(tm)(r)(c)?

No. I vote for ldview 8-D

ldview was released in 2004 too :-)

(But it will probably be renamed before the next release, as there already is a (GPL licensed) program called ldview, and that program is also a Lego-model viewer)

afair alfie first started to release morphos software in 2005, or? We need to save his stuff for next years vote. :-)

Anyway, a suggestion in own interest: as Mr.Banana is just a joke program it would made a bit more sense to add statline or cpu monitor instead (both saw the light of the MorphOS world in 2004 the first time too). </adv> :-D

    regards,
