MOS Media needs a new name badly

Just because it would be really terrible to have a component named
"NewAge" and "Heavy Metal" simply sucks as a name, I feel I must vote
for Reggae too. It's not too bad as a name, though I don't see a
connection to former MosMedia here. I'm also no reggae fan but I don't
see the point of voting for something for that reason. :-)

(Yes, Crossover might actually be a fitting name)

I voted for heavy metal because the choice was (unfortunately) limited to music genres. IMHO, I do not see the connection. I would have prefered a name with "Media" in it.
I hope the mos media author will reconsider the music genre idea for something that make more sense.

Media covers much more than music.
Reaggae is a slow, cool music genre. Not really good name for a fast media system.

    Heavy Metal Media? Haha.

I won't install it if it refuses to process my hip-hop collection ;)

For the vote, I vote blank, since I really don't think any of the music genre-names suits. Call it 'Khrysaor' (Brother of Pegasos) or Nereus (An ancient sea-god with the ability to change his shape). Why not? we already have Pegasos' father, the USB-stack ;).

Then we should rename it to ska. Ska sounds like fast Reaggae. Reaggae itsefl fork();ed from Ska. :P

Most of you know, that "MOS Media" is a project adding modern media layer to MorphOS. The project itself is progressing well after some API restructuring, but it needs a new name. Why? There is already MOS Media project, multimedia streaming related as well, so the current name is misleading. There is also MOS Media company in Russia. That is why a new name is a must. I've taken a temporary one - "Transmosify", but then I've heard it sounds funny for Germans and is "unprofessional". So I have a question - what the new name should be?

    1.MOS Mesa
    2.Morph Mesa
    3.MorphOS Mesa

    Take a pick 8-)
Mesa is the Greek word of Media.
    yeah I'm greek...
..there will be only one left.

If it comes to music style names I vote for "Reggae", too.

I am not a "Reggae guy" myself, but Reggae definitely has it's qualities and the name just sounds better than "heavy metal" (if you go for the latter, consider to just nam eit "metal").

Only part of Reggae is slow, but dance hall or Ragga is quite fast and full of energy and at those dance hall parties usually the most beautiful girls are around.

I'll never forget these legendary dance hall parties @ the fusion (www.fusion-club.de) some years ago. Yeah - Those were the days...

The only problem being, that would sound like an OGL compatible 3D layer. :-)

It would be usefull to put on the site also an archive containing all the classes.

P.S. I have still not understood if I have or not install multimedia68k.library on my Peg..

PegasosII "Elite" Machine --> PowerMac MDD "popular" Machine --> MacMini 1.5 "still more popular" Machine

Well, don't be so fast with installation. Reggae is not fully compatible with earlier MOS Media. So all two apps (SeventhSense and Weather) using it will stop working and even may be unstable. No application uses Reggae currently. The page is targetted mainly for programmers, so they can learn and experiment a bit.

Multimedia68k.library is for programs compiled for m68k processor and running on MorphOS emulated. This mainly concerns applications written in AmigaE. Without this small library Reggae is not accessible from m68k code. Native PowerPC apps do not care about this library. You can safely install it together with classes, m68k applications (if any, but as I wrote the lib on request, I guess we may expect some) will use it, PPC apps will ignore it.

    @krashan:

congrats to the new site and cool name! :)

But maybe it's possible to make the reggea release in one big archive (maybe 2: one for the lusers and on for the devs: reggea-1.0-user.lha and reggea-1.0-developer.lha) instead putting all files extra. That makes it very hard to keep track of the releases/changes. Instead of pointing to the single lha archive it could point to the release archive in which this version of the file is contained (I mean in the table).

    regards
    tokai

Yes it is of course planned, just all this cannot happen at once. The two archives will be available as soon as automatic system for building them will be done (I have such a system for single archives already). Single files will be used by automatic network update tool (to lower bandwidth usage).

BTW, your bad habit of naming it "Reggea" is a bit irritating :-D .
