    Uhh...dumb question-- Can the program be launched without a console window being opened? Perhaps I just need a .info file with the correct tooltypes.

    Suggestions?

    Hello,

    I was very happy seeing this emulator coming to Morphos.
    I installed it, ran OS8 from CDROM and installed it on a hardDriveFile.

    Strangely, when I run the emulator, OS8 begeens to boot, then it frezes.

    So I decided to install the system in a partion.
    I puted another fresh hard drive on my peg and tryed to give it to Basilisk.
    Installed OS8 on this drive and reboot.
    Running the emulator , OS8 beggins to boot then .... It frezes again.
    It seems I'm not the only one having this problem.
    Does somebody found the problem?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    The same thing happens to me also. I use OS 8 installed on a hardfile and Basilisk freezes even if I boot with no extensions. This hardfile works fine on my laptop with Basilisk on Linux and Windows.

    Not sure about 8.0 but with 7.6.1 I had
    to do a custom install and then remove
    as many unecessary extensions as possible
    to get it working reliably. The default
    install seems to put a lot of extra
    extensions and control panels in that
    can cause problems. Booting with extensions
    off doesn't seem to help, they need to be
    manually dragged out before booting again.

    There's updated version available (happened during mz downtime)

    The URL is the same (first page)

    copypaste from ann.lu:

    Basilisk II is an open source 68k Macintosh emulator. It can emulate either a Mac Classic or a Mac II series machine with colour display and sound.

    * MUI GUI
    * Harddisk support with 64bit addressing
    * Supports LUT and ARGB display modes on all screens including Ambient
    * Uses AHI unit 0 for sound
    * Supports CD-ROM
    * Ethernet and serial drivers
    * All PC keyboard keys are supported in emulation
    * Supports wheel mice

    Differences to AmigaOS version:

    - This version doesnt run MacOS "natively" (natively as in virtual 68k engine in MorphOS) but uses UAE 68k emulation engine.
    - Support for Mac HD floppies is removed because built-in floppy controller on Pegasos is not supported in MorphOS.
    - NSD and P96 support was removed since it is not relevant on MorphOS.
    - AHI support was rewritten and defaults to 48000Hz/16bit now.
    - The largest possible MacOS RAM size is 1024MB but the minimum is 16MB.

    Maybe low mem (0x0000 - 0x1fff) could be made writable/readable when Basilisk is running, but we will see... with current 1.4 kernels it is not possible.

    Hmm do you think this migth be implemented with the 1.5 Kernel? And if so, would that mean, that Basilisk II can use the MorphOS 68k Emulator? And might this also help to get sheepshaver running so that it can use the real ppc instead of the PPC Emu? (I guess the classic PPC Mac OS doesn`t need MMU, but the Emulator does? Just guessing, have absolutley no Idea ;-) )

    The Problem with the current Basilisk is that it is dog slow on my Peg 1, also it isn`t possible to have a 68040 emulated, which is needed for example for "You don`t know Jack" (One of my favourites, i would really like to play again)

    How do you select the device driver for the CDROM? ide.device is not on the list.

    yeah it would be great if 1.5 had an option when you launch the kernel to keep free the low mem...

    Probably by writing ide.device to the appropriate textbox.

    I should have mentioned that I tried that also. It did not take. Perhaps I will check out the latest release and see if I still have trouble.

    I'll look what I can do for Basilisk.

    But SheepShaver is unfortunately impossible to port at this moment. Maybe in the future.

    I like the changes in the new release (improved interface). It appears to be trying to access my CDROM drive now but refuses to boot from it (I have an OS 8.1 CD). For my hard file, I am using the same exact file copied over from the Windows box where I have the win32 version of Basilisk II installed. After giving up on the CD, it boots from the hardfile to a certain point and then crashes as others have reported.

    I got 7.5.3 running and custom 7.6.1 as well.
    I tried a hardfile 8.0 install with 8.1 upgrade
    and it just freezes up on boot.
    I got color now with a radeon 8500LE and
    it also works with Radeon 7000.
    sound is working and cd on ide.device.
    Haven't had any internet success yet
    or printing. Used a centris650 rom and
    a performa630 rom with success.

    great work itix. A possibility for "hard-quitting" the emulator would be nice.

    in Aminet there's a prog called "MacROMTest", which gives the version of MacROM. I had success with
    124.34
    124.36 (both 1 MB).
    124.21 doesn't work for me

    If anyone can get the 7.5.3 files off the apple site and make a normal install disk out of them, or if you have a normal install disk it can be shared. Apple has given it away free for a long time now. I cant seem to find my OS 8 install disks and want to install this on my Peg!!!!

    I have a "clean" install of version 7.5.5 that I made for the Windows version of Basilisk (in hdf format). It also work with Shapeshifter on the Amiga.

    It "might" also work with this version of Basilisk.

    Edit: I just looked at my "old" downloads drive -- apparently I DO have the files to build a 7.5.3 install disk. Let me know if you still need it.

    file that will work. Why cant you make one on the MOS version?

    In the next version you can. There was no such option in the original GTLayout GUI and thus there is no such option in MUI GUI either...

    Sounds good! Your doing a fantastic job itix! Please keep it up. Have you found a way to get ethernet working? I want to be able to use it and havent got it working on the small boot disk i am using. It seems OS 8 has trouble so I am waiting for a 7.5.5 hardfile.

    I used vlink (readme) from Aminet on my A1200 to get MacOS & AmigaOS simultaneously online. I haven't (yet) tried it on MorphOS, becouse my bootfile for Basilisk II is a bit "lacking" (I used a separate partition on Fusion)

    I still cant get internet to work. I did what you said, but I have
    DHCP selected. Do I have to set it manual like your grab shows?

    Also i can seem to install OS8 at all. Put the cd in and try to run
    the install script, but it only tells me I need zero memry to install
    and have 0 memory available. Strange. It also does it on the OS X
    Basilisk so I must be doing something wrong?
