I don't think so, As far as I can tell the only change is the re-enabling of icon scaling.

I'd love to use it, but after the last one I tested with something as simple as renaming files not working I decided to go back to the default installed version from the 1.4.2 disk. I hope the crew working on it puts out a release with all that stuff fixed. I did like the other nice features it had.

This version works fine with my Peg2/G3, except WBStartup and renaming files, plus Yam does not show appicon text correctly anymore... have not yet found other problems, ofcourse there are still many many features not implemented...

Caboom :-) This version crashes when I open
a directory with icons that need scaling :-D
    Guess I'll stick to 1.41-standard-compilation :-)

Ambient 1.40, 1.41 and 1.41 CVS are targetted to MorphOS 1.5. It may or may not work on MorphOS 1.4, and MorphOS 1.4 compatibility is secondary.

Thus, use at your own risk.

For me the benefits out-weigh the negatives. none of the current bugs in 1.4 effect my day-to-day usage.

Stuff like renaming can by done many ways, I have Opus Magellen II installed (but I could just as easily use shell) which I use for file management and I used it when I had AmbientV1.3 too simply because 1.3 was awkwad for managing anything but a few files, so those bugs don't effect me.

The fixes though, such as the bug where viewing a folder with a large number of files caused ambient to place many in the top left of the window on top of each over and caused major slowdowns. Or where some filenames where displayed oddly with the first part of the filename is repeated over and over.

Those bugs where far more irritating for me, than simple file renaming bugs.

Nothing hurts a project more than developers not taking the time to let their community know what is going on.

Update works fine here. WBstartup now works. Rename does not work.

I'll keep using it for awhile and report back.

Alfie JKD compiled the latest CVS code and cant figure out how you got the icon scaling to work again. Give him a PM and let him know what you did so your fixes and the current file rename fix in the CVS code is all in one new release.

The developers have stated that stuff may or may not work well on MOS
1.4 .. I was interested enough to download the code and hack away,
that's all. I will never be in a position where I'm good enough to
    contribute to the project.

I am hampered by the fact that I know neither BOOPSI nor MUI
programming....so it's a very steep learning curve for me on top of
finding the relevant code bits in the codebase itself ;-)

I managed to get the relevant parts enabled in the prefs (was a
simple uncommenting in the class) and in the structure but couldn't
seem to get the iconclass to scale...but I've only a partial reading
    of the layout code.

FWIW There are tons of new comments littered throughout several
modules by the new development team...it looks promising :-D

Scaling is done in AskMinMax method in iconclass.c

The latest version of Alfie's Ambient (compiled yesterday) solves the WBStartup bug, in addition to reenabling user changeable icon scaling.

Why not work on the same CVS ?

The short answer is because itix said:
    Quote:

Ambient 1.40, 1.41 and 1.41 CVS are targetted to MorphOS 1.5

And alfie hasn't got access to MOS 1.5. On the other hand, he said it took him just two minutes to re-enable icon resizing, and 10 minutes to fix the WBStartup bug... This should tell something about his skills (and we all know he knows a lot about MUI, for instance), that would make him a nice addition to the Ambient team, IMHO. We need to convince him to join the team (I'm already trying on IRC in some subtle ways... :-D ), but on his part, he won't do any kind of ass-licking to get the 1.5 (which he would need, it seems). So, it seems we won't get him working on Ambient CVS after all, but just to update his version for his daily use, which we will enjoy nevertheless...

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

My sentence was badly worded... Ambient works on MorphOS 1.4 too, but noone until now, tested Ambient on MOS 1.4 in real. Thus there are oddities which need to be fixed but stabilizing Ambient to work flawlessly on MOS 1.4 can take some time. Remember Zapek was always working on 1.5 system and this is what i meant by "targetted to MorphOS 1.5".

As for working on CVS... build defaults to 1.4 version and most of developers have 1.4 anyway. Regarding WBStartup bug Alfie did very good job!

I found that...but as I said, I'm learning as I go. I couldn't seem to work out why icon scaling wouldn't work once I'd re-enabled it in the prefs...since in theory the code appears to check the bounds against size settings in the prefs structure and should scale as required.

There doesn't seem to be any obviously commented out code...

Don't try to resize the panels (by dragging the pixel-slider) in the alfie version. My panel was corrupted and the ambient mui settings defaulted to ugly topaz/8 font when i rebooted :-O

I found a strange bug in this Ambient release made by Alfie. Sometimes when i directory listing with the ambient it hangs up with "scanning location" in the window header. It is always work for me with the new Circus Linux game, when i wanna starts it from ram.
I think the most stable "new" Ambient is the Zapek one, which is not stable in MOS 1.4 :)
switch back to the old one, or wait for a CVS.

I just compiled the CVS one last night and it does this too. My icon drawer that has hundreds of icons in it that I use for adding to new apps wont work with it. It locks up and shows the same scanning at the top of the window.
