    1. Is the "fixed for Mos 1.4" version of Ambient Better than the Ambient 1.29 version that shipped with Mos 1.4?

1a. Does the new version have any features or bugs that would encourage or detract from me wanting to make the move today?

Note: nice to see ambient development is now on sourceforge

    Yes and no ;-)

Sorry, there is no other choice than to try.
There are some nice things in the new ambient.
But there are some things that are broken.
(eg you cant rename a file anymore)

Overall, I think the new Ambient is an improvement. It does some
tricks that the old Ambient didn't. The icons on Ambient fade up
which looks pretty cool. There are some improvements to the panel,
such as the ability to make it a backdrop so it doesn't intrude over
the windows. List view is back and there is a thumbnail view for
image files now. It is more stable, too.

There are some shortcomings though. Icon handling is alittle wacky
now and you can't snapshot them anymore. Ambient is just supposed to
remember where you put them just like on other platforms. I had some
trouble with WBStartup items, but setting the DONOTWAIT tooltype on
all the icons in the WBStartup drawer fixed it. While there is a MIME
filetype system now, you can not edit it.

That is all I can think of right now. The problems have not deterred
me from using the new Ambient.

    Okay, Thanks...

The reason I asked was on the previous thread, their were issues some people had. Just wanted to know if these had been resolved or will they be corrected in future releases.

I can't go back to previous version...
Ok, auto-scaled auto-sorted icons are quite annoying, but thumbnails, mimetypes (even if not editable) and some smaller improvements just make the deal, for me...
BTW, you can't rename files or use WBStartup (only Pegasos Mixer works with DONOTWAIT, here), but I don't care that much as long as I have glowing icons... ;-)

I think most of the problems stem from the fact that Ambient 1.4 was
meant to use the MOS 1.5 kernel. I don't think we will see any
improvement since we are not going to see 1.5 anytime soon, if ever.
Although, this is software so anything is possible.

It depends if a specific program listens to DONOTWAIT or not.
Statline, CPU Monitor, and Zapper are happy here.

Isn't DONOTWAIT a tooltype for workbench and not an app ?

I thought it worked this way...

However, no DONOTWAIT on earth can explain Miami or Transpoclock that they can stay in WBStartup

And what is the different which kind of app/tool/alien-translator sits in WBStartup ? It's just a drawer with automaticaly starting programs. Some programs notify workbench after starting, others don't bother.
