Hello, have not been around for sometime yesterday I noticed this:

    Date: 03-01-2005
    -----------------------
Scalos is NOT dead! Indeed, lots of changes have have been done under the hood. An entirely CVS-based source repository and build system has been setup, all ASM code in Scalos core components has been replaced by C code, and many code modifications have been done to allow building with GCC, as a preparation for future OS4 or MorphOS versions.

    Date: 30-01-2005
    -----------------------
The Scalos development team finally has received an ODW donation from Genesi in order to support development of a native MorphOS version. Porting already has started, and we are making good progress.

Great news indeed! This could be the solution we are looking for to solve the Ambient issue! I used Scalos for many years on my Amiga in the past. It was a very complete WB replacement!

It looks like they aim to be not only Workbench replacement but also Ambient replacement. They even got an ODW. Hmm ... ;-)

    Very Good news!
At office where I haven't my Peg I use AIAB with SCALOS on my UAE environment and it works like a charm!
Last week I've tried to install the last 68k version of Scalos on my Peg but, unfortunately, it seems there are some problems mainly with windows redraw... :-(
I hope now, as Scalos Team received an ODW, something more usable for MOS will be released...
So, happy programming with your new beautiful toy Scalos guys, and if you want a betatester, I'm ready to hack my MOS partiton :-)
    ALOHA!

Can SCALOS work in MorphOS now under 68k emulation? It would be nice to add a new look to MorphOS with some extra features.

Check out the Saclos forums HERE I am nit sure how active they are, but THIS thread shows they need help with development. We have a ton of great coders in here. I would hope someone would offer support? (I cant do it, but would love too if I could)

Actually, there will be a new forum here devoted to Scalos as well. (It would be up already, but the Flu-bug has got a hold of your friendly neighborhood webmaster.)

Does anyone here know, where to get the mcpgfx.library? That's the only missing stuff, I need to make ScalOS running...

    Bye, MarK.

Awesome news. I always liked Scalos and
it's going to be cool to be able to have
a 2nd choice of desktop for MorphOS.

Just how much of Ambient would this replace? Would it make MOS look diffrent and more OS3.X like or just add new menus?

    @ Acill

My guess is that it fully replace Ambient, and that the looks (at
least in the beginning) will look pretty much like the screenshots on
their website. Perhaps it (later on?) will also add compatibility for
the same skins used in Ambient?

My only experience from Scalos is from reading its website, so I don't
know much about it really. But spontaneously I feel that compared
to the public Ambient, this might be a trade down in a few
areas while it certainly will be a trade up in most others.

If memory serves correctly, the skins are intuition based, not ambient based. However, I agree with takemehomegrandma that there will be both tradeups and tradedowns.

Also, Scalos does not have to be used as a total ambient replacement. It could be launched as a seperate task in addition to ambient. (have your cake and eat it too, so to speak) I can't be 100% sure, but I do seem to remember running Scalos inside of a Workbench window back in the day...
