I've been downloading some movies with ctorrent lately, and now the disk is behaving strangely.
Files get lost or corrupted, or something, the movie i'm downloading now is 4.5GB and
divided into 94x50MB, and i've completed the movie 3 times now, there's 4522 'parts'
but some files are filled with garbage, and wont unpack.
If i download the movie (4522/4522) i get errors with unrar(not a rar file)
and if i restart download with ctorrent it detects 4083 of 4522 parts complete
even if its completely downloaded before.

I tried to copy the files to another partition but whole machine hangs at a specific file,
or not hangs, but halts, mouse works but no icons respond and cpumeter stops.

Anyone have a clue whats going on ? SFS to blame ? the hd is a new seagate barracuda 200gb

Oh. Then it is just corrupted filesystem. It tends to happen with SFS... :-S

Get SFSsalv and try safe as many files as possible :-/
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

I had the same types of problems not long ago. I keep a partitopn now that just has my system backed up. I would do as above and hope you can salvage most of the files. SFS should be backed up all the time.

I have a partition on my system for my brower's cache and it gets
corrupted every couple of months or so. As a matter of fact, I had to
    reformat it yesterday.

I'm happy that my theory was correct and it is an SFS problem.

I am not sure that I agree with this synopsis. I have run my peg II as my main computer for 1 year now and only had one sfs crash. and that was in the first week I installed morphos. since Feb. 2004 I have not had a problem with sfs. Now I don't exactly know what caused the problem, but I use this computer for surfing, via Ibrowse, voyager + Aweb Daily, sometimes using 2 or three of the above browsers at the same time. I do not cache to memory so all cache is disk based on an sfs partition. when I get home from work I will post my settings. I have nothing but good remarks about sfs, It is far more stable than the old FFS was.

Me neither. I never had any problems with SFS, apart when I was using it with my A1200, and I do use it eavily on Pegasos since 2002 now (and I have a Pegasos I April 1).

I once had a problem with YAM corrupting files and other people told me it also corrupted partitions (it may have been fixed with newer versions tho).

If you use Secondary IDE on Pegasos I, this can also be the problem, it has some (DMA?) bug (dunno if April II fixed that).

When I download some video with mldonkey for MorphOS, the file is initially created "full-size". If I try to play that file before it has been fully downloaded, mplayer starts playing weird stuff! Even fragments of videos from other partitions! O_o

So I guess there should be something wrong managing "empty" files.

But the partition itself doesn't seem to be corrupted.

Another problem I have detected is using the BSD commands (ls, rm, mv ...). They sometimes lead to errors (files not being removed, and stuff). The same kind of errors you may find when mounting an SFS partition from Linux.... I had to format one SFS partition cause I messed it up with Linux. It's OK to copy things to the SFS partition, but better don't move or erase things from the Linux side.

The only thing I can say it's that there is so much corruption in this world, that it has finally arrived to your HD !! good luck!!! :-o

I have movies on my katos and storage partitions
storage has 12 movies plus full 5 seasons of Babylon 5 in Mpg and AVI
format (babylon movies included in the 12) katos has 10 or more dvd
.VOB files that i watch occasionally All of which I have on dvd
    anyways.

I use these partitions daily and have never had a problem except when
I first installed and was playing with the settings to try to squeeze
more performance. I am not sure what I did to screw it up, but works
    fine now.
