Dialup problem with Miami

    Hello,

    I moved temporarily to a place where I don't have broadband or ethernet access. However, I have the good old dialup option. I connected a 3Com USRobotics 56K EXT Modem to the serial port of my Peg2 and tried to get online with Miami.

    Unfortunately I couldn't manage it to get online. MiamiInit succeeded just once to connect and I saved my prefs then loaded them in Miami, but when it comes to configuring PPP or DNS things, Miami can't go online. I also realized that it has problems resetting or identifying the modem. I think that the serial device may have problems and I don't think my system is stable. I don't think I have an incompatible modem, so what's wrong? Should I make special settings with Miami?

    The only idea I have is that perhaps you boot
    without the "ramdebug" option ?

    The pegasos in it's current setup sends out debug informations
    to the serial port. So when you want to plug any serial unit to
    it you have to tell the system to direct the output elsewhere.
    RamDebug means that it's written to ram ... getramdebuglog is a tool
    to read it from there when needed.

    When you dont switch the debug off it's no wonder your connection
    has problems and is flakey ;-)

    @Leon

    I would first try the most appropriate Init String before going more deeply into this issue.

    Check out on Modem Help, especially here for you.

    The first init I'd try (according to the model you mentionned) is "USR 56K modems" -> AT&F1&D0S15=128S32=32

    Hope it helps!
