    Hi everybody,

    These last couple of weeks I'm involved in trying to subtitle AVI-movies, converting them to mpeg-2 and burning them to DVD on my pc.
    I have to say there are a lot of progs out there to make life easier when you are a pc-owner, BUT, I'm really tired working with the pc now.
    It absorbes all free time you have! (hence the less mailing on MorphZone)
    The whole pc-system is unstable as .... (fill in your favorite bad language here :-)) (I'm using Win2000 and Win98)

    My big questions are:

    - Is it possible to subtitle AVI-movies with our MOS/Amiga software?
    - Do we have converting programs for AVI to mpeg-2 format?

    Bonus question:

    - Is it possible to author a DVD with MOS?

    I really hope we can do these kind of stuff with the Peg!

    Thanks in advance,

    Spidey

    I haven't seen anything about this yet, but it's on my "watch list." In fact, I know an open source project that I'm going to whine about for our bounty friends--->VirtualDub!

    Bounty -> VirtualDub!

    AVIs can be very well and quickly converted with ffmpeg software. it's on aminet (iirc) under the name of videoconverter (or similar). And You can also burn DVDs with FryingPan.

    There is no such thing as THE .avi format. "AVI" is a framework for various video and audio compression plugins. DivX movies can also have the ".avi" name extension just like files using Microsoft's RLE, (formerly Intel's) Indeo or the Cinepak codec...

    A program which supports one or two AVI codecs, may still not be able to convert 99% of the other available codecs out there.

    @Spidey

    I haven't mess with the subtitling stuff yet (soon I will!), but I'm pretty sure you can do it with MEncoder.

    Read the documentation carefully. You'll maybe be frightened by the amount of information, as it's quite complex, but not complicated!

    Try this link for the doc:

    Hope it helps ;)

    @everybody:

    Thank you very much for your replies! :-D

    I'll explore the given hints and tips (perhaps also make a tutorial or so :-))

    As for DVD-burning.
    I'm waiting for Burn-It V3.0.
    I've seen the demo version of FryingPan, it certainly looks great, but I have some problems with the donation-method. Last time I checked I didn't saw something like a bank account or so.

    Bye,

    AFAIK and as I tried, MenCoder is really slow and low quality. It's about 4 times slowern, than ffmpeg and the quality is far below the ffmpeg's output. But I didn't play too much with it's options.

    And for FP registration, please check it's homepage.

    You can use PayPal, afaik.

    Bye, MarK.
