Mode Edit problems

I have just got my Peg 1 back up and running but I am having problems
getting mode edit to let me create a 1024x768 screenmode.

    I have a Peg 1 with Voodoo 3500 AGP-16MB and am running MOS1.4.

    MOS1.3 automatically gave me 1024x768 but 1.4 doesn't.

No problem I thought, i'll just add a new screenmode, easy.

How wrong was I? NOTHING i do will let me create a new one.

If I try to clone and existing mode and change the resolution, i get a
message about the mode already existing. Same message if I create a
    new one from scratch.

Can someone please help me? It's impossible to use 800x600 and do
anything productive. The SDK will not be installed until I solve this
    mystery! :-)

    Thanks in advance................

This is how I do it:
1)Enter ModeEdit page in system prefs.
2)Enter "Monitor" page and enter your monitors frequencies or select your monitor from the list.
3)Back to "Modes" page. Click on "New" button.
4)Select desired resolution & bit depth. Click "Test" to see if it displays okay. If it does, click Ok.
5)If you want to, re-arrange screenmodes by dragging them.
    6)Save prefs.
    7)Reboot.

    That should work, I think...

...and it helps to select the VESA(?) modes, they usually work without problems :-)

No VESA modes are listed. Well, none that I can see anyway.

Are there any driver updates available for the voodoo cards?

I'll download the 1.4.2 boot.img later and see if that makes a difference. Lost my beta2 password though so i'm gonna have to dig through 12 months of archived emails!!

Dont forget to choose your monitor in monitor section.
ModeEdit will hide lots of things if your monitor is not defined.
Exemple : with the standard monitor only, I can do resolutions higer
than 800x600 . After choosen my monitor 19" on the list, mode edtit
show me lots of other resolutions.
Dont forget to reset your peg after selecting your monitor.

    Wooohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got it working finally! After a few reboots and a little tweaking,
    i've got a nice 1024*768 Ambient!

Thankyou to everyone who offered advice and help to me.

Time to get down to business now. I've installed the SDK now, so time
to bury my head in example source for a few weeks.

    Thanks again!

Well, I'm capable of a 32bit depth 1280x1024 mode on Linux and other OS's.....like winslows. I have redefined my monitor under modeedit and I still show no screemode of 1280x1024....24bit or otherwise. I don't know what's up with this OS.

    Hello HarryO43,

Like Serge suggested in this thread, have you selected the right monitor?

Otherwise it could be a problem with the driver?
I don't believe the supplied drivers uses the full potential of the gfx-card installed at this moment.

I've got a Radeon and can select upto a 1600x1200x24 bit screensize (unfortunately I've got a TFT monitor capable only of displaying upto a 1024x768 screen :-))

    Bye,

    @ HarryO43,

Check your setting agains - especially the part about the "Bandwith [MHz]" because this one is a combination of X-size, Y-size and the appropriate frequencies.
You can test this one by lowering this setting. Sooner or latter you are going to loose also the 1024x768 and other high screenmodes.
Oh, BTW, don't forget to "Apply" your settings and afterwards "Save" them.

I'm having a NEC MultiSync LCD 2080UX here and are able to use 1600x1200x24 bit (albeit I mainly use the 16 bit versions) with both a Voodoo 3/3000 (PCI) and a Radeon 7000/VE (AGP).
Had to tweak the settings at first and it took me some time as the Bandwith was nowhere available (only horizontal/vertical frequencies).

    @HAK

I have a Radeon 9200SE with a Princeton SL90 monitor, which is only capable of 1280x1024 res. I did have it up one time before, but the monitor wouldn't self adjust, and there are no manual adjustments for it. I had to reinstall MorphOS and that's when I started having the problems with modeedit. I will go over it again as I have before and see what happens.

    Thx...

    @ HarryO43,

Do you mean this one ?

The necessary horizontal/vertical frequencies can be found in the spec sheet but I guess, you know them already.
Unfortunately the bandwith is not included.
In this case please look at this article which shows you how to (roughly) calculate the bandwith.

    @HAK

That's the one. I'll look at the link for calculating the bandwidth. I have the spec sheet here and could have sworn I saw it. I have to dig it up now. I emailed Princeton's tech support and they sent me some sort of spec sheet. Might not be the same one.
