    Hi folks,

I've been trying to get linux running on my Peg1.

I've created the Linux & Swap partitions, booted the CD,
    then configured the keyboard.

Then when it comes to initialising a swap partition, I
get a message telling me no partitions are available
(or something - can't check now as using peg).

anyone else had a problem like this or know what
    i'm doing wrong?

    @ Robert,

Depends on which program you used to create this two partitions.

If you used SCSIConfig from MOS you'll have to check the "Filesystem" and "Identifier" entries in the partition window (other partition tools might name these entries different).

Filesystem has to be "Custom" (should be clear, otherwise you can't change the entry in Identifier).

For the linux partition itself, the identifier has to be "0x4c4e5800" (this is hexadecimal for "LNX\0" (of course without the quotes)).

For the swap partition the identifier has to be "0x53575000" (this is hexadecimal for "SWP\0").

OK, thanks. I'm at work now but from memory, I'm sure that's what they are.

If that turns out to be the case, could anything else be causing it?

    Thanks,

OK, I've got a bit further with this.

The filesystem and identifier entries were fine.
Both linux & swap partition were on a separate HD
from the MOS boot partition, so I had to type:
    "idec=ide-scsi", instead of "hdc=ide-scsi".

Also, "ls /cd", gives the following:
    3929008 INSTALL.;1
    5682 LINUX_ON.;1
    645458195 PEGASOS.;1
    1463142 PEGXLIN.;1
    10148 README.;1

Which meant the full command was:
    "boot /pci/cd install.;1 video=tdfx idec=ide-scsi"

I then get to initalize my linux & swap partitions,
which are /dev/hdc3 and /dev/hdc4, respectively.

After that, "install base system" gives:
    "CD - file not found".

Manually entering dir. /dev/sr0 or /dev/hdc still gives file not
    found.

    Any ideas?

    I feel like I'm almost there. :-/
