    Almost every app is unavailable.

I have tried manually going to the http:/www.geit.de site and it is accessable from OWB, but there is no images folder.

Here is a snippet of the error I'm seeing in Grunch.

    FATAL Unable to find 'http://www.geit.de/images/grunch/YAM'
    FATAL Unable to find 'http://www.geit.de/images/grunch/WookieChat'
    FATAL Unable to find 'http://www.geit.de/images/grunch/Transfer'

The list goes on and on. Almost every app listed in Grunch is erroring out.

    Suggestions are appreciated!

    Thanks!

Grunch was (and still is) a great idea that relies on developers supporting it.

When Geit wrote it he created a database for older SW with the links going to morphos-files which worked just fine till that site got abandoned.

SW that is tied to an individual developer's database should still work.

Not sure why the images fail, but that aren't needed for Grunch to work.

Did you try to install them or are you basing this to the errors you see in the log? Those errors are just that Grunch tries to look for an image (picture) to show, but if these aren't found it just falls back to default image etc. So nothing to worry about regarding that.

I confirm that some of the same circumstances exist for me too - the software (Grunch v2.18) will not download some of the databases associated software, though I have the images for most of the software already downloaded from previous installations.

This situation seemed to be more dire (extreme) yesterday, but I have managed to download at least 1 piece of software tonight (RNOComics), but some software will not download/install, and errors out in the way you have already described, but for programs like MUIMapparium, the errors are as follows:

FATAL - Unable to find 'https://www.alb42.de/muimapparium/MUImapparium_0.0_powerpc-morphos.lha!
    Checking installed version of 'MUIMapparium'!
'MUIMapparium' is not available for download!
    'MUIMapparium' is not installed!
    Processing Done.

So, the program (Grunch v2.18) is currently not working or finding some of the database software as it should or as it could reasonably be expected to function. :-(

That is probably due to database links not having been updated recently, for instance, the current link to MUIMapparium is:

    http://www.alb42.de/muimapparium/MUIMapparium_0.8_powerpc-morphos.lha

. . . which differs from the Grunch database file details. 8-D

The images are optional. I provided some at geit.de for applications I added from e.g. Aminet. Grunch checks geit.de for all missing images If they are missing on the application download site, so there is no harm at all. It is just an information for the creator of the database to notify about missing images.

The reason why ALBs page fails is the HTTPS. It seems there is no http fallback, like with geit.de, so any access fails. As Grunch currently does not support https pages.

I consider adding Grunch officially to MorphOS at some point and performing a rewrite of the code to reflect all the stuff which has been added to MorphOS recently, which includes using Reggae for downloading, which would solve the issues with https, too

However, currently there is a lack of motivation on my side and there is a pile of things I want to add to MorphOS notification manager first, so don’t hold your breath.

Thank you very much for the reply! I think that MorphOS needs a software repository like Grunch and I appreciate your hard work. Please keep up all that you do! MorphOS needs dedicated people such as yourself.

Maybe someone with more experience than me can pick up the torch and work on this for you. It would be great to not only have your repository but to also have Aminet as well. Please don't abandon it. It is sorely needed.

This reads like there may be some misconception regarding what Grunch is. Grunch is not a repository but a package manager that is able to access software repositories like Aminet, depending on what actual source is linked in the respective database file.

Almost all my apps in Grunch are accessed from Aminet, because it's just a reliable long living file repository.

Some files in other databases point to morphos-files.ppa.pl, which is gone, but they're mostly from Krashan's database, which is quite obsolete anyway (no need to have Reggae in Grunch, for example). And some have issues with HTTPS as noted.

It would be nice to be able to access MorphOS Storage from Grunch, but it has couple of issues... it's HTTPS only and it doesn't have static URLs for readmes/archives. Even a static readme without renaming according the version would help...
