The Sungem_eth.device's MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is set at 1500 in my Mac Mini 1.5GHz (Silent Upgrade) which I think was the default setting when I originally installed it some 8 years ago (approximately/ca.), so 1498 seems close enough to me to not be a problem, but if it's fixed your issues then so be it !
