Actually some cameras use propietary format for storing images on memory cards, but I guess such cameras are really rare...
Also, not every USB memory card reader is compatible with poseidon, one of "good signs" is that, if there's no additional software needed for WindowsXP (But that does NOT guarantee, that reader would work)
