There is a "workaroud" for the IDE locks problem:

When you ar about to encode something launch UnitControl
(sys:Tools/UnitControl), and set all you CD/DVD Drive to "no
    removable"

    Is there any other workarounds?

I mean, my Pegasos IDE ends up freezing EVERYTHING every now and then while I'm doing something such as :

    - Copying a big file over my network to/from my pegasos
    - Burning a CD with MakeCD
    - Sometimes when playing a DivX (quite rare tho)
    - When I simply start MPlayer after a LONG uptime.

I've been trying to pin-point every bit of what could be causing the problem and as my Pegasos never had the April fix, I'm wondering if this could be the only reason.

    .!.!.
    !.!.!

Oh, and BTW, I was going to make modifications to my resume with PageStream 4, but when I loaded it up, there was no display inside the document window ; no fonts, no images (Paths are all OK, fonts load in my font selector, etc). I loaded many documents (in case my resume was corrupted) but they all ended up showing nothing at all.

It was working 100% without any problems. I know I should wait for the MOS version, but as it was working correctly I don't see why all of a sudden it should stop.

So I even reinstalled it all from scratch and it's still the same.

Is this a known issue on MOS 1.4?

... I guess I'll have to wait for the MOS version, if it ever comes out.

    Thanks,
    Fred

    Hello,

For your Pagestream issue, I guess you are using a 24Bits screen?

If yes, try with a 16Bits screenmode instead, normally it should solve your problem.

Argh! I guess I didn't want to read that answer! :-?

Well, I'll wait for Peg 2 and then I'll be :pint: !
    :-D

    ...

I'm wondering if they still do the free April fix?

Anyway, about PageStream, which release version are you using?

    Cheers,

Oh! That's probably the reason, I'm actually using a 24-bit screen.

Once I'll be back from work, I'll try a 16-bit screen.

    :-P

Thanks a lot for the tip :)

    Hi again !

    # Argh! I guess I didn't want to read that answer!

I understand that. You could try to connect drives in a different configuration. Maybe you will find it better to have drives on the same channel.

About Pagestream I'm running it on a 24bit screen without problem. Version 4.1.2.

    I've an April2-board and the IDE-lockup-bug, too.

Sometimes if I try to copy large files from a FFS-
to a SFS-partition, not from SFS to SFS. And if I
use my DVD-ROM to read out or to from it.

The DVD-ROM is connected to the second IDE-port.
First, I connected my CD-writer to the second IDE-port and while burning CD with MakeCD the
IDE-lockup-bug occurs. Now I've my HD and my CD-writer connected to the first IDE-port and the
IDE-lockup-bug now only occurs sometimes, like
I wrote, if I use the DVD-ROM on the second IDE-port
and if I copy large files from a FFS- to a SFS-partition.

BTW, Ralph Schmidt wrote, that it is a software-problem (ide.device, IIRR). I've no problems
while using Debian LinUX and copying large files.
Can't use the CD-writer and the DVD-ROM here (Any
    hints are welcome... ;o)).

Well, lets say it quite complicated.

It is probably also a softwareproblem exactly as Ralph Schmidt wrote.

But as you say yourself, problem might be different, using different kind of setups, or using different kinds of filesystem, or different kinds of operatingsystem... or...

I'm quite sure that if you did change your board to a non-april board and connected your harddrives etc in exactly the same way as you have now, problem that you dont see now, will occur for you in Debian Linux.

If you read the specification for the Articia-chip, you will see that DMA not is listed.

So what I can say for sure is that you probably will feel that you have less problem with a board with April-chip then with a board without.

I can avoid the ide lock when setting my CDR to no removable.
With removable enabled I get locks when burning CDs.

I did try with 15/16-bit screens, and it works better. However, I still have a problem I could not resolve. The Triumvirate font just doesn't display anything and it happens that this is on of the font I'm using the most. First I simply thought it was corrupt, so I did get it from one of my HD backup on CD, and it still does the same. So I tried other fonts, and their working OK.

    :-?

Really strange ... if anyone has any idea of the possible cause of this, I'd appreciate your input here.

    Fred
