    Samba (at least on linux) does not run as a service in the background.
    It is plugged into inetd and is run as needed (when someone tries to connect to the samba port number on your machine).

    I am not aware of how it is setup on MOS.
    I downloaded the MOS version of samba and ran the installer.

    During the days of Amiga OS 3.1 you had to set it up the same way (to run as needed) using Miami.
