Announcement: Google has, unfortunately, added new requirements to keep Iris certified for GMail access. One of those is external audit, which would add a yearly cost of about 500 USD. I am currently evaluating our options but I do not believe it's worth paying this much money per year just to keep frictionless GMail access in the app.

:-( Totally understandable (from your pov), but a sad thing...

Are you able to keep basic GMail account support (IMAP) in Iris without this audit?

Google used to offer a feature called "access via less secure apps", which had to be enabled by end users in order to access IMAP accounts without OAuth.

Unfortunately, Google will officially retire the feature on September 30, 2024.

Not without people having to lower their security settings in GMail, which I would like to avoid.

Jacadcaps : Your pov is perfectly understable... 500 EUR a year is a lot of money.

I first thought of a bounty-like, but making such a bounty every year and reaching 500 EUR each time seems an illusion.

And, by the way, I'd rather give the money to you than to Google!

Even though I agree that money would be spent better on Jaca, on the other hand Google support should be essential to some extent of the users. I think, it should be doable to setup a bouanty on a fixed amount (25 eur / user) and for just 20 active Google users, we could reach easily this amount. Imho of course.

Until they raise the fence fee for getting in...

Wasted money imo. Switching to other email providers are imo a better move.

    Iris 1.33 is out!

    - Restored context menus over folder and message list title rows
    - Narrow view message list title row now has a sleeker menu for quicker access to sorting and filtering modes
    - Implemented the ability to add a custom button to the toolbar

I very like Iris but I'm unlucky with Iris. :) My mail @amiga.pl since several months doesn't work correctly in the Iris. I switched to @gmail.com (Iris wasn't only reason) and now I won't be able use Gmail in the Iris. :(

However in a future I am going to leave almost all Google solutions (except e.g. YouTube), so support of GMail won't be important for me. Google is no longer the reliable 'uncle' it used to be. The company has become quite annoying. Long stage of investing and giving away has ended. The harvest has begun. :)

I've been thinking about leaving Gmail for some time now for various reasons, but I'm in dilemma about which one to choose - any suggestions?

I don't know. Apart of MorphOS I use only macOS/tvOS/iOS/iPadOS, so probably will use Apple account (@icloud.com).
Ofcourse @amiga.pl still is active but I am not sure about future of this mail provider and support of neo.pl (owner of amiga.pl) is not perfect.

    Thanks for the update, Jacek!

I would like to have the option to install an update (by quitting) AND re-open Iris. Possible?

    Hi!

Just updated Iris from 1.26 to (current) 1.33.

Unfortunately now, always when I start Iris, the "crash window" opens stating it seems that Iris has crashed. (Did send the bug report the first time).

It seems I can log in and move mails to different Folders (Backup, Spam).
Haven't tried to delete a mail.
When double clicking a mail the mail window opens but no text (mail) is displayed).

When connecting to my mail account via web interface (using Wayfarer) everything seems to work OK though.

Does the same happen on a clean installation?

Can it be, that this does not work properly any longer in the latest version...?
Now, there is in the first line something like "On 2024-06-06 wrote....", then a big space, and then comes the original text.

I would prefer (and I thougt, this was how it worked in version 1.31?!) a bigger empty space just at the beginning and then comes the original mail, including "On.....".

    Thanks!

    And a possibly second issue:

if I answer a mail from a mailing list, then the original mail is not quoted.

    Can anybody confirm this?

Since highlander opened a Bugtracker thread (7421) I guess we better move this one to there.

But short answer: I wasn't able to do a clean installation with 1.33.

Switching back to 1.26 (before update) still works OK.

For those encountering a crash popup on start: ignore the crash requester, open Iris' settings and either disable update check or enable 3 column view. Addressed in 1.34, due next week.

As a follow up for the problem with the crash popup at start:
You might have to change the settings.json file directly.
At least here making changes in the settings windon and "Apply" didn't save the settings (they do work now again after I got rid of the crash popup).

Obviously something bad happened with the latest Iris version:

additional to the "wrong spacing" descibed above, the formatting of the messages is completely destroyed!

I got a mail from someone, everything is fine: paragraphs, blank lines etc.
But as soons as I forward this mail to myself, I get chaos. Everything is lost, no formatting any longer.

    Please, check that. Thanks!

Check what exactly? Without a screenshot and the actual email that causes your problems I have nothing to do, really. You might want to forward the email as an attachment. That guarantees no changes to how you see it on the other end.

Of course I would have done it! But obviously it affects all mails!

In the last few days I have exchanged emails with various people, and when I reply to an email, the recipient receives these jumbled up emails.

So, I thought you would do it the same way as I did and pick up a mail you received and forward it to yourself. What happens?

Does it still have the formatting?
