    Jim,

If Eric is still interested in working on Libre Office around work, but is committed to travelling with work, doesn't that suggest a Powerbook would be the perfect dev machine for him?
Just throwing it out there, as he may just be not interested in the project anymore, but it's nice to have a hobby you can take with you when travelling with work.

If he IS interested in this approach, PM me and we'll thrash out getting him a Powerbook within the next 2 weeks*. That £100 I was going to throw at the bounty could be used to get a Powerbook ASAP.
If he's Europe-based, I can set it up and ship it out from here (UK) - I have the time, and it'll be quicker & cheaper.

PS - Learning MUI by tackling a port of Libre Office sounds like mental suicide. ;-)

    * ie 10 June 2013, not "two more weeks". :-D

    Jim,

Further, rather than reinvent the wheel, does anyone know how is working on the OS4 port?

Edit - Thomas Frieden. nix the idea of cooperation on that front.

I believe the port effort is commissioned by A-Eon, so it would be worth contacting Trevor (who holds the reins) as the relevant person to make such a decision. He is very friendly towards MorphOS development, so may be inclined to co-operate. Furthermore, A-Eon has always wanted to foster co-operation between camps, so it could be the perfect showcase project for them to do just that (worth pushing this idea in any speculative e-mail).

Thomas Frieden is also working with for A-Eon (or as an independent subcontractor for A-Eon) on this so may be much more approachable than if he was wearing his Hyperion hat.

How about offering an additional bounty for a MOS port of their work?

Usually, a developer agrees to a sets of goals and to accept a specified amount once those goals are reached.

And there is a general misperception here that development with the SDK has to be done on a MorphOS system.
As horrible as I find to say it, I'm finding that using Cygwin under Windows makes a slightly better development system.
Other seem to prefer Linux as a development platform.

Sure, it helps to have a MorphOS system to run the resulting code on.
But compiling and other tools work faster on a 4 GHz multi-core system then they do on my 1.33 GHz Power mac

I think Eric and SteveE617 live near each other, and SteveE617 seems to be in Oklahoma.

I'm sure that most developers here are aware of the concept of cross compilation. It's just that testing and debugging the compiled binary is much more convenient with the target system at hand.

    Exactly.

Eric and I work together. Eric was wanting to get started on this when things were slow at work and home. His job requires him to travel. We discussed getting back on the project, but it now looks like it will be later on this year.

If the G5 version is ever released, which I though it was going to be in the March/April timeframe, I have three G5's sitting here. I can provide one of the G5's to him for development.

Did anything happen with this, now that "this year" has turned into "past year"?

Actually, G5 support was released 2 days after you wrote this ;-)

As the newer releases of Libre Office are less modular than older releases, it is increasingly harder to port this monolithic beast.
I had one component of an older release working, but the newer versions pull this component back into the main body of the program.
Steve and Eric have my best wishes on this, but its a pretty large task.
Frankly, I will settle for simpler editors.
