    Good point.
But until Steve or Eric post some details here, we are keeping this thread current.

I'd like to know if Eric is going to solicit some help with this project.
    It is pretty massive.

I would ask Eric to post something here, but his hands are going to be pretty full doing server upgrades for work. Once he gets back, we will sit down and come up with the official game plan.

Cool. I won't push you, but there are people that would like to offer support.

I am going to ship the system with a 9800XT downclocked to 9800Pro speeds.
This configuration is working better (flawlessly actually) then any other R300 for me.

Purchased a second MDD and will replicate Eric's system for another developer.

I'm also giving my older (original MorphOS system) based on a Quicksilver to a friend in Philly.

And from June on, I expect to build and then give away at least one MoirphOS system per month.

Any news of how this bounty will look like? I'm also in favour of cross platform porting. It would probably speed collecting up, and it would give the NG Amiga scene as a whole a much needed usability boost :-)

    Too cool.
Its easier to mod R300s for the G5 as you don't need to disable pins 3 and 121.
If you consider donating those to any developrs, let me know.
    I can help.

Any plans start with Steve and Eric outlining their goals and deciding on a reward level.
I think the plan is to proceed in stages.
Word Processor first, then the other components one at a time.
Therefore I guess the rewards will be incremental.

Shipping the system to Eric about two days after he gets home.
I'll probably run the reg-tool, then e-mail him the resultant key.
    It would speed delivery.
And i'm changing jobs again (so cash is tight).

I did buy a second MDD (an FW400) that I will upgrade with components like the parts in the first system.
And I'm giving a 1.33GHz Quicksilver to haywire PC.
Maybe we can encourage him to develop of code.

After examining the excellent documentation for MUI, I think I can start to do the same (although my C coding skills are a bit rusty - over ten years unused).

Still, using your brain helps you retain more of your intellect.

Cool! I got some cash I'd gladly contribute with. The main point for me right now however is if this is going to be an open source effort or a closed source one. The latter have much less appeal to me because I want this to be portable to other systems, plus it would significantly raise the risk of the project not being further developed once the original porters loose interest. I think doing it the Dopus way is the way to go (that is, cross platform contribution and free for all to work on). They would then port it, show it to us, get the bounty and release the source code with a open source licence of sorts.

    Sounds reasonable?

I've less cash on hand then I would like as I received a spurious charge on my Paypal account that refuses to refund as it is for something "intangible".

Website hosting I did not order or use.

BTW, the iPage company is to be avoided as they are scam artists.

Almost ;-) LibreOffice is LGPL-licensed. This should answer your main point. And of course, any port would have to comply with this license and be released under the very same license.

But isn't there some sort of loop hole that the guys at Hyperion is using for their port to keep it close source? This is what I've heard at least.

No, since (as has already been discussed in this thread) it is an A-Eon project, not a Hyperion one. Trevor says they plan to sell it in a bundle together with other software, which is fine with the (L)GPL. Any buyer can then ask A-Eon for the source code, which A-Eon is obliged to provide, and can put it online or whatever. There is no loop hole around this.

    > This is what I've heard at least.

If it's the same source that made you believe it was a Hyperion project you should better disregard that source ;-)

Does anyone have an idea who is working on it.
Since our version will have to be re-worked for MUI, the OS4 version would only be slightly helpful.

I have a few health issues to deal with, so I am probably going to have to enter a hospital for a few days.
Before that happens I hope to get Eric's machine shipped (would have already happened but the original video card started to display corrupted output - ordered a replacement).

Eric should be back today and I will contact Steve and see how long it will take to get a proposal assembled.

And i feel I ought to apologize to all of you for posting too much recently.

It takes my mind off things and lowers my anxiety level.

    Yeah, I think they can.

Andreas for instance occasionally post a lot on a single thread, but its usually to make a point.

Like this post, more than a few of my posts lately are off topic and threadbare of content.

No good news to report, so I might as well get down to a status report.

I don't normally relay personal emails in part or whole (AmigaDave made it abundantly clear that this is bad form), but this statement from SteveE617 pretty much sums it up:

"Well, Eric got back and he's turning around and heading back out again. This project may not come to fruition. Eric's schedule is going to be very busy this summer and fall with work related travel.

Let me know what you think...
    "

So, I'm just going to pay my car insurance and some ebay invoices and the I will check into a local hospital.

Next week, I'll look into whether or not I want to tackle this myself (or another open office type package), and whether or not I am going to need additional help.

Hey, I certainly have the computers with three G4 Power macs and bids out on a fourth.

Again, re-stating something I have mentioned too often, does anyone need development hardware?

Apparently my developer has forsaken this project as he was hoping to get to work on it sooner than circumstances have allowed.
After consideration, I've decided that it would make sense to consider continuing with this project.
In that regard, I'd also like to solicit developers interested in working on an AROS port as well.
Further, rather than reinvent the wheel, does anyone know how is working on the OS4 port?

Edit - Thomas Frieden. nix the idea of cooperation on that front.

    Thanks magnetic,
I know putting things off isn't a good idea.
I was hoping to get Eric to post an outline of his goals for a proposed bounty.
Instead its been dumped in my lap.
I need to pay for my car insurance and Ebay purchases today then I will check in.
As to Libre Office, well I've been looking for a project that would help me become more familiar with MUI, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise.
And as I need help, you can bet I will ask for it (but not without trying to figure it out on my own first).
