OWB: video is currently unavailable

How do I keep OWB from doing this every other time?

I've been away from MorphOS for a long time. During my time away I heard talk that Youtube and other such sites were now fully supported by OWB, but for what ever reason sometimes the videos play, other times it says,"video is currently unavailable".

What should I do to resolve this, or is there anything I can do?

Also, how do I download the videos now a days, I'm sure that method has changed too correct?

Thank you! (yes I'm in a slightly better mood now). ;)

Not sure which thread you are speaking of, but I just remembered the "SS" before the "youtube" method so I'm good even if the video will not play in my browser.

If reloading doesn't cut it then the most likely reason is that Youtube doesn't offer the specific video as HTML5 video. This is mostly the case with videos that are supposed to show a commercial at the beginning or in the middle, which is something Youtube restricts to Flash video (probably for technical reasons). So instead of showing the video without commercial in HTML5 mode, Youtube doesn't allow showing it in HTML5 mode at all ...except when you do a little trick:

(see item #3 there; of course, item #2 is an option here too and would also help with your other question)

No need for getvideo or anything extern if Youtube decides to act up. Just don't subscribe to the HTML5 program and instead, just use the Youtube.js userscript. It's not affected by this "not available" thing.

Besides, unlike Youtube HTML5 player, it allows to get direct links and download the video (either by the direct links below the video or by the context menu over video element).

Should I enable this YouTube.js userscript even when subscribed to the YouTube HTML5 program, or should I unsubscribe from the program and then start using the YouTube.js userscript?

Is there any problem using both together, any unwanted side effects?

I am not really familiar with all of the available userscripts for Odyssey/OWB, and don't even know which ones are running by default with a clean install of MorphOS3.0/3.1, and which ones must be installed and turned on manually?

That's quite simple: the youtube.js script replaces Flash with Odyssey's builtin HTML5 player.
However, if you're subscribed to the Youtube HTML5 program and that the video is available in this mode (which is still not the case for all videos), then Youtube's player will be used instead (and since Youtube's HTML5 mode seems to have this "not available" issue, i'd suggest not subscribing to the HTML5 program).

The youtube.js script is supplied with Odyssey, but it's not loaded by default. You just have to add it, as stated in the documentation, in Youtube section.

Fab: were you ever able to figure out what kept the non-YouTube videos from being downloaded on:

    Redlettermedia.com?

Well the non youtube videos are not trivial to retrieve. I'd need to inspect it and see if there's any way to figure out the link, but it's not always possible without actually running the flash program.. :)

Sorry for my ignorance Fab, I'm not in front of my MorphOS machine to test this, but...

Are you saying that if I include that JS script that I should in theory be able to download all the videos from that site now, or are you saying that we need a real Flash program?

I'm saying the non youtube links would need quite some work to be figured out and the supplied scripts in OWB certainly won't handle it. ;)

Sorry to refloat and old thread, but, recently youtube videos aren't working anymore on owb 1.16. Does youtube change the modes again?. I have enabled the .js scripts in owb and unsubscribe from html5 program from youtube but stilll no luck. Is anyone having this problems too?.

I can confirm that. The userscript doesn't seem to work ATM (both in download and view modes).

BTW: The latest Odyssey is 1.17 and the latest MorphOS is 3.1 :)

The userscript still works here, just tested it. If it doesn't try reloading the page, just in case.

As for the HTML5 mode, youtube seems to have disabled/broken it today. It doesn't work at all in FireFox either (it uses Flash instead, despite the html5 program cookie being set).

Oh, one more thing, if the issue with the userscript is that you see the "you need flash" placeholder, then do as it says and install the swfdec plugin. It will avoid this (even if flash won't be used anyway).

So, for the people that had issues, does it work again now? Youtube seems to have fixed their mess. :)

It's working now!. Thanks fab for the tip on the swfdec plugin, as seems i forgotten to install it in the last install after my previous hd crash.
Works perfect without the subscription to html5 program.

Damn, what do I do wrong? Swdec plugin is on, html5 is off, userscript works (it shows the links), but:
    - when I click on the view link I get nothing
    - when I click on the download link I get "sorry, no such page"

Youtube made some changes a couple days ago regarding direct links, and it seems these changes weren't applied on all servers at once, so it worked for some people and not for others.

I uploaded a new version of Youtube.js on my site at http://fabportnawak.free.fr/owb/scripts/ . Grunch should also notify you about this new version.
