    Everybody knows MOS 2.0 will support Efika:
    http://www.morphos-team.net/news.html
    (reference: 23-11-2006)
    http://www.genesippc.com/press.php?date=20061123
    It is well known, and has been announced by two parties, including the
    Team itself.

    Nobody but the team members knows the release date. Last communication
    was that they reached "feature freeze" (no new features are going to
    be added to MorphOS 2.0 besides those already implemented) and are
    "just" ironing out the last standing bugs.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

    So without any changes it will run on the *new* EFIKA as-is ?

    Uhm, I overlooked the three letters "new" before Efika in the first
    post... ;-) No, no final news about MOS on Efika 5121 so far, but it's
    quite normal, since it hasn't shipped yet.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

    What is the point; these posts with topic titles like "MOS 2" and "Sputnik new release" then a question that is easily answered by doing a quick search of the forums.

    Very annoying IMO. Just designed to kick up the ants nest. It will be ready when it's finished. Developers won't work any faster because of your post.

    Unless everything is finished and the team are just wrapping up the new website and proof reading the announcement, I very much doubt that the team know the release date.

    Bug fixing and finalising changes between many people is a complex, time consuming process and very difficult to predict.

    As for myself, if there is no MOS2.0 by Christmas, i quit and sell my PegII, really fed up with all that mess.
    It's sad, but the PegII (G4) is my main machine and I'm sooooo limited with it that it cant stands forever, sorry.

    They DONT work faster because of my post? you gotta be f'in kidding me. I thought that the more posts regarding this topic would get them excited and want to release it even sooner.

    In all seriousness the last I heard of MOS was pics at some demo or whatever it was showing MOS 2 on EFIKA. I havent been to this site in months and didnt even bother keeping up with whats going on so I figured some new & fresh info would show up.

    Amilord,

    MOS2 release may bring nice new features and all, but it certainly won't change the face of the world either. If you think you're extremely limited (why?) with 1.4 then you'll still be very limited with 2.0.

    But maybe what you're complaining about is rather missing apps than os limitations after all, in which case 2.0 release won't help you at all.

    Now... I am very happy and I am not gonna sell it...;-)

    @all
    Yes, i feel limited with my PegII, not directly because of MOS 1.4, more likely it is a lack of modern applications but I think (and hope) that the release of new hardware and MOS 2.0 will bring a new breath of freah air.
    As for now, I boot my PegII in MOS once a week, every day it is Linux, it is not a question of taste but of needs, and Linux (ubuntu 7.04 PPC here) is rather slow on the PegII G4, in fact every app under linux on it is f***** slow and it's annoying. Plus the fact that even under Linux some apps are not available in PPC version (and no sources of course)

    Ok, ok, I know the "you want a thing?" "Do it yourself" but it's not that simple (not because of a lack of skills, but most people haven't the time to do it)

    I really like my PegII and MOS, but if the situation is not a little more shiny in a near future i think i will give up and stick with my A1230 for WHDload and watching demos...

    It's just my feelings, so don't flame ok?

    @Amilord:

    what about MOL ? Surely it has much more software available than PPC Linux?

    @TheMagicM

    Yes, I have it, but it is freakin slow, without 2D acceleration, not many apps are useful.
    For example, Firefox with flash plugin is soooo slow..and sound is crappy.
    Or, Amsn, yes it is the only app i can have a webcam conversation with, but it is even slooooower...
    Maybe I should simply shutdown the PegII and use a cheap x86 Linuxbox waiting for better days...don't know, I don't want to do that, but I am not as excited about the thing as I was...

    @Amilord

    I understand your feelings. What apps are missing that you need ?

    I am a dual booter too. On MOS I use YAM, AWeb (not so good but Sputnik is coming), a text editor and vbcc. On Linux side I am using Firefox, The GIMP and some other dev stuff not available on MOS.

    MOS+Peg2 is everything I need. I'm looking forward to MOS 2. You know why Linux is slow ? It's because the programs are inefficient and not well optimised.

    I'm afraid this is the way of Amigaland at the moment, if you want something you have to do it yourself. If you wanted a complete system with all the apps you should have bought a Windows box but it's a trade off because you get all the problems that go with it.

    @koan

    What I use everyday on Linux: Firefox, Amsn, OpenOffice, bittorrent and developer things.
    I use Gimp too but not that much.

    Under MOS, I am using Yam,Sputnik and Aweb, a bittorrent cvlient but it doesn't work everytime and don't know why, and PolyGlot for msn but it is very limited. And i am using Wookichat too.

    The things that are not a problem are Divx (ok some have problems but...) and mp3s or AminetRadio...and of course retrothings :-)

    I dont need a Windows box, the problem is really that linux PPC is crap and the poor support of it.

    But I really love MOS and i'm just disapointed of what is going on at the moment with it.
