I'm glad you people like it, Pieter is very skilled in building good LiveCDs. We had a similar CD like this one but with a fully working Gnome environment a couple of months ago. Sadly that was built on the 2004.2 system which only worked on a couple of Apple systems and never officially released.
Building a LiveCD like this is not very difficult unless you want to support a wide range of obscure hardware (like voodoo). Since people seem to appreciate this CD we might very well build more of them in the future. A new, working, desktop LiveCD comes to mind, somewhat like knoppix but less advanced.
@magnetic:
Try pressing F2 which should remove the splash screen so you can see what error messages it throws at you, if any.
@JACK:
All the binaries are optimised for a G4 with AltiVec. It is quite possible it will work on a G3 as well, you tell me.
Regarding Radeon, Voodoo cards are poorly supported in Linux since they are becoming quite rare. The 3D drivers only work on x86 for instance.
@DJBase:
The autoconfiguration code used is still a bit crude, although it has become quite good in the last couple of years. But if the monitor does not provide the graphics card with proper values on horizontal and vertical sync it will not be able to find a suitable mode. This is not necessarily a problem with your monitor but could also mean that the driver isn't capable of fetching the values and fall back on the default settings.
@csabanw:
It should configure automatically if you have a working DHCP server. I don't know if Pieter included drivers for other network cards than the built-in via and marvell controllers though.
