    Hi,

    I've installed MOS1.4 and I want to have a 1024x768 60 Hz screen.

I can't choose this screenmode so I have to configure it myself. Ok, I'm not experienced with this part, can someone help me out?

I've got a Daewoo TFT monitor, it's range is somewhere between 40 KHz to 48 KHz and 50 Hz to 75 Hz

    Thanks,

    Spidey

Take a look at Docs/ModeEdit.pdf document in your system volume.

    Hi Henes,

    Thanks! :-D

So stupid of me, always saw that Docs-dir but never opened it :-)

It helped me with the information that VESA modes are more easy to change. So I changed a 800x600 VESA screen to 1024x768 and it is steady as a house!
Next is to try a 1280x1024 screen :-)

    Thanks again,

    Spidey

    Hi all,

I can't configure a 1280x1024 screen. Well, the 1024-part is the problem. Could this be because I've a setting of a 48KHz monitor?

    Bye,

    Spidey

Well, with just the basic calculation:

    48000 (Hz) / 1024 (pixels high) = 46,875 (Hz)

In other words, a monitor with horiz. freq of 48kHz at a screen height of 1024 can only have a vertical frequency of maximum 46,875 Hz, so if the monitor can't handle that you can't use those modes.

Thanks for the calculation Black_Eagle :-)

It's funny though. I saw this monitor running in 1280x1024 mode on a pc, how's that possible?

    Bye,

    Spidey

ps: I'm running again from my Peg1 :-)

    @Spidey

I have a 17" CTX TFT monitor capable of 1280x1024@75Hz.

This is what I did to configure the screenmodes:

Select the highest frequency monitor in ModeEdit (monitor-85KHz) then save and reboot.

Delete all the screenmodes in ModeEdit. Then test and select the VESA modes you want corresponding to your monitor's refresh rate (in my case it was VESA 75Hz) then save and reboot.

Now you can select the screenmodes you have chosen.

Can you create and save your monitor? I use a 17" SONY S73B and select one of the default monitors. But I can't create and save a monitor with the specs of my monitor. I guess there is a bug in the Prefs program.

I guess that should not be done... In that way one might end up with MorphOS booting into screenmode that monitor is unable to display (Too high frequency).

Select frequencies that are within monitors' specifications

I'd add screenmodes manually, select refresh requencies and test every new screenmode before saving.

IIRC, when editing screenmode, you can select "preset" values (resolution, frequencies) from the top of the window, use that.

Then press "Test". If it displays ok, press ok, otherwise Esc and don't even think of saving that screenmode :-)

Oh, if you don't know exact specifications for your monitor, find them with google

Well it worked for me :-P

When I selected the refresh rate that matched my monitor I wasn't able to select the 1024x768@75 and 1280x1024@75 16/24 bit screenmodes. I suspect that's the same problem Spidey has.

I know it's not advisable to do but if you are carefull it works. By selecting the highest frequency monitor you can acces all the screen resolutions.

...including ones, your monitor can't display...

Just select "New" in ModeEdit window, then select suitable screenmode from list, test if it works, and if it does, save it. Should be safer that way.

You obvisously didn't read my previous post very well where I wrote:
