ImageFX Alternative for Advanced PNG Editing?

Well, as fate would have it, no one has been able to help me get Image FX 4.5 running on my eMac. As you can see in post #37, I believe I have been through every step suggested and yet my eMac refuses to load the program without locking up.

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7758&forum=9&start=20

For this reason I am very sad that I even bothered to purchase ImageFX 4.5 in the first place, and am now in search of an alternative paint program that supports the PNG image format as well as many of the advanced features that Image FX has...

...or does such an alternative not exist and I'm the only MorphOS user who is forbidden to use and enjoy my Image FX purchase?

What advanced features are you looking to use the most?

Obviously you have tried tools such as FXpaint, Griboullis3,etc.?

Did you try running it under EUAE ? Ok it's emulated but you are still working on your morphos machine.

    Otherwise fxpaint works nice.

FxPaint, but I don't know how one would go about getting the full-version these days, unless second-hand.

Maybe ASiegel will advise what he uses, for his great MorphOS-branding pictures.

About fxpaint this is on their website: http://www.iospirit.com/index.php?mode=view&obj_type=html&obj_id=135

They state they no longer sell it and it all depends on remaining stock at the dealer. So if you can not buy it anymore, is it abandonware ?

I just wish thay would just make a statement about that, maybe send them an email with a question to upload their software to Aminet or as such if nobody is selling it anymore.

I did buy the original versions of fxpaint, fxscan and something else I can't remember right now. I don't understand why they stopped selling it ... it's on a cdr anyway when I bought it directly from them.

In your link there're stated three reasons:

    * we want to fully commit to developing Mac products in the future.
    * the big additional overhead that would be necessary to integrate (permanent) support for download and package versions of Amiga software into the new concept and the drawbacks that would come with this for the majority of our customers - which today are Mac users.
    * the decreasing demand for Amiga products and the the situation of the Amiga market in general.

Yes Andreas, I can read too.

But why are they doing it in such a drastic way ? They might as well give the distribution rights to Vesalia or as such so at least some people can buy it instead of pirating it or donate the source to someone who actually does something with it. PFS3 is a nice example here I think.

There's no such thing as abandonware

I bought fxPaint years ago and was pretty disappointed with it, as it couldn't even handle imagescaling well (which was a pretty important feature for me). But at least the version of ImageFX that came with the superbundle (or whatever the bundle was called), worked good enough for me.

Absolutely, that would be nice. But then, if they did this it wouldn't mean IOSPIRIT didn't stop selling it to customers, would it?

Another one that's not a fan of fxpaint, no real reason but I just never gelled with it. Been using arteffect4 and making a bit more progress with it.

Best editing software I found on Mos was pixel but yet another dead end! tried emailing the author, tried the links to purchase it but no-one wants any money.

This is one of the reason's I wont be upgrading to another morph machine, as I still need to use a windows box due to photoshop.

I actually like and use fxPaint's fxAlbum a lot for making HTML albums (just learn how to avoid hits with it ;). But for painting or image processing I've never learned to use it... haven't actually even tried so hard beause earlier mentioned programs feel more like home for me. Glad that I bougth it when it was on sale with discount anyway.

Almost 98% no on this one unfortunately! IIRC it was a one time license deal for distro in SuperBundle packages that came with Peg2 systems.

I still have one left I keep as a soveigneir :) Got to love Captain Pegasos! hahah

The best thing about the SuperBundle was Pro Station audio full version! :pint:
