Hello, I am considering a Pegasos with MorphOS.

I noticed a lot of software for MorphOS was originally for UNIX. Does it have a POSIX compatibility layer?

Also, a bit off topic in this forum, but does it support hardware RAID cards?

Yes, MorphOS has the gcc compiler and the ixemul POSIX llayer libraries.
RAID cards are not yet supported, but what are thye good for anyways?

    HI
Once you get a Pegasos you'll never look back. We have a LAN here - 1 Amiga 4000T, 1 Pegasos, 1 Ibook G3, and 1x86 box and I use the Peg as the main machine for Debian linux, MOS 1.4, and OSX with Mac On Linux! When you get a Peg board you also get a MorphOS SDK with developer docs, a gcc compiler, and other goodies! Plus an irc channel with our devs and a developer website.

    So, go for it!

Hmm... okay, posix layer will be helpful, but I doubt it includes X11?

My entire music collection is in FLAC format. I don't think there's a text-mode player for it, so I'll have to figure out something about that.

    Hi !

There is a "POSIX" layer through the ixemul.library and ixnet.library.
When you compile with gcc without special arguement, this layer is use
    by default (malloc, free ...).

Nevertheless you can add -noixemul don't use it.

MorphOS UNIX's software port don't use all the time this POSIX layer,
for example, MPlayer or the vorbisfile.library (port of libvorbisfile)
doesn't. It's better to don't use ixemul for a better MorphOS
    integration.

About X11, some people can install it and recompile X11
software, however it's not recommended. If you want to make software,
which are needs some graphics function or user Interface, use MorphOS
    native library (MUI, Intuition, graphics.library).

Maybe you should have a look on http://mdc.morphos.net, It's "MorphOS developer Connection"

    Bye

The problem is, FLAC doesn't include a FLAC player. Kind of stupid, isn't it?

    Hi Duty!

    Is FLAC popular ?

I had never hear of that. It's not supported by MPlayer atm :-(

It stands for the "Free Lossless Audio Codec". I think it's popular among audiophiles, and those who want to show off that their music is ripped legally (because they aren't traded much on P2P.) I'm the latter. ^__^

That's weird, because MPlayer supports FLAC on UNIX systems...
