When I launch Simplemail (from PolynetNG) it consumes around 600MB memory, which is then freed up again when exiting application. Simplemail also now takes around 5-10 seconds to launch (during which time the splash-screen is displayed). From memory, this is considerably longer than it took to launch when first installed.

I am using simplemail v0.35; there are no tooltypes set; simplemail launches on its own public screen (15-bit, 1440x900); the total size of the entire simplemail drawer (including all mail folders) is only 9MB.

I did previously have a large number of stored e-mails, which I have since deleted in order to reduce the footprint, but this has had no effect upon startup time or memory usage. I now have around 450 emails stored (in local folders, not the inbox), with minimal attachements.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue, and better yet, how to solve it?

Make sure that you are using expat.library included with SimpleMail.

Interesting that Simplemail works well with expat.library v4.1 (from 2005), but exhibits this problem with v5.0 (2009).
