I clicked a video link on accident and found myself staring at a YouTube video playing in OWB 1.6 with the flash plugin! OK, so it was about 1/4 speed and using 3/4 CPU, but I was able to watch the video!

Is this something that is being worked on as far as speed/usage goes?

    Great work!

Did you try using Frame Skip or Direct Render options?

Youtube is one of the worst cases for swfdec. googlevideo and dailymotion work much better in comparison. But anyway, look at readme for more details about youtube. With direct render option + frameskip + throttle + "&fmt=5" trick, it should play not that bad on a mac mini. :)

But getvideo+mplayer is still a much better option speed-wise.

About speed, there might be something to be done when/if cairo is hardware-accelerated, but that's only a part of the problem. Flash is just slow, and opensource solutions like swfdec or gnash are even much slower than the original adobe's player.
