    Dear All,

At the time I installed MorphOS last week DVDs were played smoothly via Mplayer. Now I tried it, and after a while Mplayer said that there is a read write error on the disk (any DVD basically).

I have a MacMini 1.5, and tried with the internal DVD drive and also with external ones and with several DVDs. In Ambient all files on the DVD are shown, seems to be OK.

I tried with AMP2, which does exactly the same thing.

Can it happen that I installed something that "ruined" the DVD play "capability"?

    thanks for any ideas

    cheers

What about other CD's, like music CD or software? From my experience i have to say that most of internal cdroms in minis are crap..

I have to agree with pampers. The standard drives don't seem brilliant, I've replaced mine with a nice Panasonic multi drive. It's much nicer and very quick.

These drives are crap indeed. Mine can't read anything anymore, i think. I should replace it too. Anyone got a nice link for that? :)

To play -avi-s or mpegs from DVD or CD works nicely with the same MPlayer.
I tried with an external drive as well and the symptoms are the same.
Therefore I think it is a software issue...

Well, i hope you don't try to play encrypted DVD as if it was a normal file, because in that case it would certainly give that error. In Mplayer you play DVD by using the appropriate "Play DVD" (or DVD icon) option.

    A bit narrowed down:
    - with own burned DVDs it seems to have no issues
    - with "original" DVDs, I used Snoopium to see what it searches for. And I found the following in the log, which speaks about some DVDKeys etc.:

Does that mean anything to anyone?

Well, it looks like it can't create a directory for some reason. Do you use FFS without long names option enabled, by any chance?

But even if Mplayer can't write keys, it should still play it anyway... Just run mplayer in shell mode and type something like mplayer dvd://1 and see the actual mplayer log.

    Hi Fab,

no, it is the standard SFS. However if I look into the directory, it creates the keys... Strange.

Thanks for the tip for the CLI Mplayer. It does not work either, but a bit more verbose. Sorry for the long log, but I am not sure which part of it can lead to a conclusion:

Mmmh, not exactly sure what happens but try in the same way from shell with just dvd:// and then dvd://2
try titles from 2 to 10.

Alternatively, you can also tell mplayer to use dvdnav (which supports dvd menus): dvdnav://

My guess is the 1st title you're trying to play is a still frame or something that standard dvd:// can't play.
