Quake 2 (Hyperion's version) won't run full screen.

Quake 2 only runs in windowed mode not in full screen. When run in full screen the graphics are trashed and everything is unreadable.

I have recently switched graphic cards to a 8500 and use MOS 2.0. It ran fine with my voodoo and 1.45.

    Any ideas?

Why not use the MorphOS port of Quake II? I'm using it with the data files from Hyperion's Quake II. You can download it here

BTW, Hyperion's version also works fine on MorphOS 2.0. I just tested it (Radeon 9000 Pro).

You only need the baseq2 folder from the PC version of Quake II. Unpack the MorphOS port into a folder of your choice and copy the baseq2 folder into this folder (not only the files but the complete baseq2 folder).

That's it, you're ready to go.

    Works great!

Thanks for all the help. This version, so far, seems much better than the hyperion version.

    Thanks again...

yup. Running here flawlessly. But I can remember some quirks with graphics at the very beginning. AFAIR it had something to do with window/fulscreen mode and disappeared miraculously after setting video options to tinygl.

You can always edit the config.cfg in baseq2 folder
I guess we need only the values:

    set vid_ref "tinygl"
    and
    vid_fullscreen "0"

(the second one only if you like the game in window mode)
Q2 runs here quite well in fullscreen mode too.

That's probably becouse the port you are discussing has never been released, but someone leaked it.

Anyway the sad but true fact is that the only "legal" way to get a Quake 2 version that works on MorphOS is to buy the Hyperion version (even if that's way worse than this leaked beta).

Or I don't know if anyone has recompiled the (very outdated) Quake 2 sources on aminet into a freely available executable, that could be an option too.

    @ Jupp3:
You need only datas since Hyperion conversion provides a launcher (that I didn't try)
The two cds in the package are original pc-cdrom.
Then you have a third cd (labeled Hyperion) with installation progs and libs and a fourth with mods.
    So.... ;-)

I have the Hyperion version of Quake II and I remember I couldn't
play on A1200 PPC due to an error during installation process!
I remember I phoned to Virtual Works (wich I bought the game from)
for explanations but nothing to do. The same on the Pegasos: installer
stopped at almost half of process.
So I installed the MorphOS port and all datas manually and all went
    ok!
Actually, I cannot hear any sound using SBLive (incompatibility?!?) but
I didn't try Pegasos sound connector..
A question: how to install Mods and above all how to play with them?
    Pegasos II 1 ghz
Powermac G4 Quicksilver with Sonnet Encore 1.8 ghz
Powermac G4 MDD single 1.25 ghz, silenced for ears health...
Powermac G5 dual 2.7 ghz I'll be back...
    Powermac G5 dual 2.0 ghz
    Powerbook G4 1.67 ghz 17

    So....

Well the data files are easy to get (I got the re-release version, which cost around 10 euros I think) but that doesn't change the fact, that as far as I know, the Hyperion port is the ONLY legally available version that runs on MorphOS, that I know of.

Sure, there's the leaked beta version (which I too have, I admit, and even if it's way better than Quake 3, I'd rather be without than pay for Hyperion port, if I didn't have the beta). Ever seen the sources for that? Neiter have I, and being able to provide those are a legal requirement for releasing GPL software binary. The author of the port never released the binary or sources.

Your're right, no doubt. So pegasosforum.de should better take the archive (which has been there for almost 3 years) down, I guess ;-)

    Interesting note:
There is also a WarpOS port of Quake II by Frank "Goos" Menzel (German). When Hyperion were about to release their port he took his version off his website claiming he lost the sources due to a harddrive crash. So hosting of this archive would be equally illegal as per GPL.
Don't know if that version runs on MorphOS though.
