    Hello folks

If some of are are mac/OSX users you may know about Dan Lab Games ( www.danlabgames.com ), some macosx (and now windows too) shareware games. These games are really cool and are made from a french guy pretty talented. I met him some weeks ago on IRC as he seemed to be interested in porting them to MorphOS. That would be absolutely fantastic, these are quality games. They are also featured on Apple's web site.
Some french MorphOS users at www.amigaimpact.com are ready to collect money to buy a pegasos board for Dan so he can port his games. What do you think ? would some of you be interested in such a project ? We're thinking about starting a bounty for this dev and i'd like to know if we can also include the international MorphOS community.

what's your opinion on it ?

    Hi SoundSquare,

    DanLabGames are very funny.

I like a lot the design.

It would be a very good thing to have this quality games on MOS.

I love these games. I was glad to see you didnt intend for it to be a bounty. That would mean he would have to give them away free to MOS users. I dont think he would do that. I say heck yeh get a paypal link up. If he has one now I can even link to it on my page. Its starting to become an OS X/ MorphOS news site now.

    thanks for your support !
You're absolutely right, setting a bounty for Dan would be nonsense, hs games will remain as sharewares if they reach morphOS one day. I'll tell you about the paypal thingy as soon as i'll get a reply from Dan. I sent him an email to kow if he'd still be interested in it.

    @all

thanks for your support as well ;-)

I for one would like to see these games on MorphOS. I could send a
Pegasos I system and I"d be glad to do so. It is the one I'm using
now. I can stand to be without it for a time, if it'd make me a
footnote in MorphOS history somewhere ;-). I'll stick in a new HDD so
it'll be fresh. Its got an AGP Radeon 7500, hasn't given me much of
any trouble with the Articia bugs either. Would make a great
evaluation system so at least he can see how good MorphOS is (and
where it can get even better :-) and get started with his ports.

    Just let me know.

that's very kind from you ! I'll let you know as soon as i'll get a reply from Dan. But as it's your main pegasos, i would not like you to miss it for too long ! keep in touch

Maybe it would be a good idea to think if the games could be ported (easily)

The first (big) question I have in my mind is: Are the games based on some BIG unported (to MOS) physics engine, such as Ogre3D?

alright, i had a reply from Dan.

    "Hi Thibaut (yeah that's me)

If someone can lend me a pegasos machine i'm ok to code for MorphOS. I don't have much time so i'd port the Golf game at first, then the Mahjong game later in the year.

My games use sdl, sdl_image, and sdl_net. I'll use my game engine who doesn't need any modifications. I think that porting it is only a matter of tuning the compiler and and few other things. I'll surely need help cause i think that installing gcc and compiling is not that simple on Amiga.

I've read the french and english forums a bit. My games will remain sharewares and won't be free of course, I'd port my other games on MorphOS depending on the success they might get.

    see u later
    Dan"

    ok so what's next ?

1 - let's find a pegasos for him, a complete system would be perfect. It would be better from someone in Europe, more easier for postage and stuff. Or we can still ask Genesi ?

2 - let's prepare a HD for him with MOS and dev tools.

    3 - to devs : get ready to give a hand !

Maybe some trusted person could compile the games.. no hassle in loaning hardware and he could still get his shareware-money. I'd be ready to pay for the golfgame :-)

So where should I send this? Maybe I could send the unit sans hard
drive (keeping my valuable data/pr0n here at home ;-) and someone here
could send the preconfigured drive with MOS on it? Or would he find
it more educational to start from scratch with a blank drive and a MOS
    CD and go from there?

keep your peg for now mate, i sent an email to BBRV to know if they could provide Dan with an ODW or a pegasos2 board. We'll come back to you in case Genesi doesn't want to support it.

thanks a lot for your kindness.

After a little wait, and a non-response of Genesi, we (a group of frenchs users) decide to send a Pegasos to Dan.

He'll receive his Pegasos (Peg I April II wt 256 Mo, Radeon 7500, pre-installed HD and a CD drive) before ou just after the new year's eve.

    You must know ! :-D

alright here is the status :

    - I'm waiting for every donator to send me the parts (Peg1 motherboard, RAM, DVD drive, Radeon card)

    - I provide a micro-atx case and a 40Go HD

    - Serge will provide a second 40Go HD, i'll install Debian on it, just in case Dan would need another OS.

    - I'll build the machine once i'll get everything, probably right after xmas then send it to Dan.

    - Donators that want to help us with postage cost are welcome !

    Finally we're making it !

thanks to all the involved Pegas0rs !

Good to hear! So how did you set it up? Was the dev kit pre installed and tested?

Either that or he has changed his site to different purposes and does not want anyone there unless they have permission. His post was from a long time ago.

Your guess is probably correct though.
