Hi all

I replaced MorphOS:Prefs/env-archive/sys/def_drawer.info (or whatever the exact name is...) with a different icon and rebooted, but drawers which don't have icons still show the default MorphOS drawer when I'm in show all files view. Which file do I have to replace to overwrite this icon with a different one? Also, is there a default CD icon I can overwrite? I couldn't find it in envarc:sys.

If you didn't changed it, check SYS:Prefs/Presets/Deficons/ (or if you changed it open the file ENV:Deficon_Path and see which location it tells you). Ambient uses it's own location for all the deficons. The few remaining def_#?.infos in ENV:sys/ are only there for backwards compatibility for a few old programs.

Thanks! That has allowed me to change the def_drawer, def_disk and def_RAMdisk. I also created a def_CD0 but it didn't work; CDs seem to use def_disk. Is there any way to change this?

i belive you can name it def_CDxdisk.info , then it should work for cd0: cd1:, etc

That's it! def_cd0disk.info did it. I also created def_usbscsi1disk.info so USB memory sticks have their own icon too. Cheers!

And if you want to add deficons for filetypes listed in mime prefs, you just have to drop your wanted icon on the icon area when editing a mimetype. It will then be copied to the right place in ambient deficon path.

And while we're at it, def_view.info for iconified views, def_bookmark.info for panel bookmark icon.

Could it be possible to differentiate dvd medias from cd medias with def_dvdxdisk.info ? Four years ago under mos 1.4.2 I managed to differentiate them at insertion of a media. But now with def_dcxdisk.info for cd and def_dvdxdisk.info for dvd there is no difference when I insert one or the other. It always uses def_cdxdisk.info icon to show them.

My guess would be that the name of the icon corresponds to the name of the device. So def_CD0disk.info will be used as the default icon for disks inserted in to CD0:. If that is true, then perhaps you had a separate mountlist for CDs and DVDs. Maybe one with a device which only works with CDs and one which only works with DVDs, and then a different def_xxxdisk.info for each device. That's all just guess work though, so could well be totally wrong

They are PNG. You don't even have to rename the file to .info like you do in AmigaOS. If you click on the current icon in the MorphOS Information window, you will get a requester to select a new icon which allows you select a PNG file whether it has a .info extension or a .png extension.

Icons coming with MorphOS are PNG icons, but Ambient supports also classic icons, newicons, glowicons, glowicons32, dualpng icons and even datatype icons (but tooltypes, view/snapshot data/... can't be used for these ones obviously).
